Rooms are basic and overall adequate for someone on a budget, though I think this place is more suited to someone staying longer than a few days - a person who is wanting to rent an apartment type accomodation for a lengthy period as opposed to a fly-by tourist.
The location is a bit too long of a walk (20 min to main train station) for a tourist travelling by public transport carrying luggage and for the price being charged, better located (closer to train/bus station) and cheaper accomodation can be found elsewhere. Estudios is within walking distance of a local bus stop, however, if your Spanish is not great you don't want to muck around on buses - it's better to be within walking distance of where you want to go to.
Most tourists in Santander hang out in and around the "old town" part of the city where all the sights and bars/restaurants are and that's where a tourist is better off staying near. Unfortunately this place is in the opposite direction, it's in the other side of town and it takes at least half an hour to walk to the 'old town'.
The problem with Santander is that the budget style accomodation - "Pensions" - are not generally advertised on english language hotel/hostel booking websites and most don't have their own websites. If you're looking for well located budget style accomodation in Santander, it is best to go through Santander's official tourism office/website or wait until you reach the city and book directly from the tourist office counter (providing you are arriving within 'business hours') inside the entrance to the main train station.
This is not by any means a bad place to stay - the staff were helpful and an internet booth and supermarket are nearby....just better value and location can be found elsewhere for a tourist staying for a short period of time.
