Good location in centre of Santander close to the shopping. Very comfortable room - with enormous beds, large modern bathroom (with bath and shower). A short 10min walk to the bus and railway stations.
I would say that Silken is better at the room 'frills' than other main Spanish chains (Sol Melia, NH extra). You get the trouser press and a huge assortment of toiletries.
Staff friendly and polite. Speak English. Helpful with tourist information.
Don't be fooled by the address - it may be number one Plaza de Los Remedios, but this is a small street rather than a large square! As such, the street views are limited and of the multi-storey buildings across the small road.
If you want to be close to the beaches, a different location would be better as Santander is really a city in two parts, the city centre and port, and the beach resort. It is possible to walk between the two - but on a hot day a thirty minute walk seems a lot longer! However, buses are great and unlike some other Spanish cities the routes are simple and easy to understand. The other option is to use the hire bikes, which again, unlike most cities, are very simple for tourists to use as they do not require any pre-registration, only a credit card which you put in the machine (which charges you 150euros but only if you fail to return the bike) and the small hourly rate. If you decide to return the bike and then get it another bike later, you are given a code which makes this procedure very easy. The cycle lanes from the city centre to the beaches are very good and scenic.
