Every June we take the cruise ferry from Plymouth, England to the town of Santander, Cantabria, Spain and make a point of staying at the Hotel Sardinero. Although it only carries 3 stars, this hotel is a trully excellent place to stay. It is situated in the Plaza d'Italia, facing the Casino and the beautiful Sardinero beach. Here you can sit at a table on the patio and watch the world go by or have a snack and a drink in the busy bar/cafeteria. It seems half the people of Santander pass through the bar each day; it is really a popular meeting place. In the evening the "Pub" opens; this is a very comfortable bar with armchairs and sofas and also has an excellent selection of spirits. The restaurant serves lunch and evening meal (table d'hote and a la carte) at very competitive prices. The head waiter is charming.
The rooms are all individually designed, those at the front are a "must" for their views of the sea and also of the Magdalena Palace.
To sum up: A first class hotel which draws visitors back year on year.......highly recommended.
