“Cheap and cheerful, apart from the food”

With this hotel, you get what you pay for to a certain extent. The rooms are adequate and the en suites are kept clean. Everything is a little old and in need of updating. The soundproofing is practically non-existent, it is possible to hear conversations in surrounding rooms and in the corridors. The amenities are also adequate - an internet room with free Wi-Fi, a small pool and a games room with a pool table and a table tennis table, and a reading / television room. (The rooms do not have their own TVs). All could do with an update and an injection of style, but this is not really an issue.
Staff are very friendly and helpful, assisting with organising day trips, car hire and are happy to take messages, and translate if required.
The hotel really falls down on its food offerings. Breakfast is buffet style and kept warm for hours and intermittently topped up, but is not really any worse than any other cheap hotel. The evening meal is lousy. Other than salad and pasta which is served every evening, there only really seems to be one option of a main course, and one dessert option. Drinks are not included in the half-board catering option (not even any soft drinks). Again, the dinner options kept warm for a while, and the food offered is very cheap and nasty - a kind of miserable school dinner.
A budget hotel with cheap rooms, friendly and helpful staff, and bad food.

“basic but great value - location not so great”

this hotel has had an unfair write up from some. the rooms are small and basic but clean and well serviced. the reception staff are courteous and willing to help. the buffet breakfast is varied - yogurts, fruit, cereal, toast, cheese, meats and cooked food - so there is something for everyone. we did not try the evening food so i can't comment on that. there is free wi-fi in the main hotel building and there are sunbeds and umbrellas provided free of charge around the pool. the only downside is the location - you have to walk around 15 minutes downhill to the main centre of puerto de la cruz for bars and restaurants which means about a 20 minute walk back uphill to get home again!! a taxi is around 4 euros though so wouldn't break the bank. if you do have difficulty walking then don't choose this hotel but if you're relatively fit and like a stroll in the evening before having your meal then you can't go far wrong with the Acuario.

I'm writing this to warn anyone thinking of booking this hotel,or location.
Let me start....It's in the middle of no where. Their are no bars near by. Every think ivolved a very long walk. So if your looking for a relaxing hoilday this will certainly ''NOT'' fit the bill. It was that bad. Me and my partner checked out after just one night and got a direct coach the playa las america. luckly for us we saved our hoilday. And also the weather difference is massive. So please be aware...A week here would have been a hoilday from HELL !!!

“could try a lot harder”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2011

thie hotel is very very basic the bar was run by the reception staff so if you wanted a coffee or a drink you had to wait for them to opem iot and get you one this could frequently involve a wait. The rooms were clean but very small we had roomn 606 on the top floor floor 6 the lift only goes to floor 5 so carrying your luggage up could be a problem as no one was available to help.the hill to the town was very very steep and anyone with walking difficuties would be scuppered. The beds were like concrete blocks very uncomfertable .The food was plentiful and varied but was ALWAYS cold not pleasant at allThe advertised pool bar and snacks were absent during our stay as was the games room unless a faulty pool table and old table tennis table count as a games room.Having said all this the town and loro parque made the vist worth while

“Value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2011

Mixed reviews on this hotel so wasn't sure what to expect. In short,
food was really nice, great selection alway multiple choices, waiting staff very friendly. The hotel was very clean, we stayed in room 410 &411 with sea and pool view. Taxis into town around 3.50 (very very steep hills better walking down and taxis back).

I wouldn't go here if you want nightlife, its also about an hour from the south airport, thoses with young children need to be aware that the pool is very deep and both ends. The TV has no English channels.

I think for the money however overall it exceeded my expectations... would we stay here again. yes.
