“A definite downturn & never again”

We stayed here for January 2011 & had previously stayed here in January 2010 & had enjoyed it. Not so in 2011. The hotel has taken a turn for the worse & is now expert at 'corner-cutting'. Food & food service leave much to be desired; crockery & cutlery not checked when it comes out of dishwashers - dried food debris left on; 3 wineglasses (on 3 separate occasions) with, lipstick on; cracked beer tankard; metal staple in bowl of peanuts; bedsheet with hole; grumpy reception staff & some grumpy ones in the bars & restaurants too. Enough is enough. We shall not be returning to this hotel again & cannot recommend it now. The difference in 12 months is amazing

nothing special - pool not clean, tennis court? better don`t call it - seems more like dessert

I stayed here in january and I really enjoyed myself, a free bus into Puerto de la cruz and you can have a very pleasent day in the sun having a beer out side a bar people watching. T he hotel itself is very clean, staff are polite, friendly and helpful. Rooms are kept very clean with constant change of linen and towels. food is excellent. I can not praise it enough, you have a choice of entertainment each evening which is pretty good, I have stayed in a lot of hotels and I must say some of them were a disgrace but the Bonaza is at the top of the list as being one of the best

“Inconsiderate and rude!”

We booked this hotel online for two people for three nights. When we arrived we handed over our reservation paperwork. Then the guy at the desk told us that the printout said for ONE person, went to the back, came back and said everything is alright. We were too early to get our keys, so we left to see the city. Upon returning there were two other gentlemen attending. They brought the paperwork back to us and said we had to paid an additional 20 Euro a night because we have two people.

We booked this online and said two people. We asked to talk to the reservation department but were told to return the next day to talk to them. The next day a new person was at the counter and said there was an error on the website and we were correct with the price.

This took around a total of 10 trips to the front desk. The two gentlemen who helped us that night were rude and quite inconsiderate. Just kept saying the decision was made elsewhere. Jorge asked why we were arguing over 60 Euros, its not a lot of money! I told him its not the money, it's the principle of the matter, and he had no right to say this anyway.

Though the matter was resolved in our favor, we came to Tenerife to see the island, not to spend nearly two hours of our time and 10 seperate trips to the front desk (which is actually located across the courtyard, down the steps to another hotel, it isn't even in the Bonanza itself).

I highly suggest you reconsider if you are wanting to go here. They wanted to break our spirit in getting us to pay the extra money, all due to a problem with their website, it wasn't even us who were in the wrong. Spend your time on Tenerife enjoying the island, don't waste your time with these people.

About the rooms? Predictably as bad as the hosts. Beds are old and uncomfortable, we had a faucet dripping the entire time, the safe didn't work and we had to move to another room just because of that.

I don't know whether our case is isolated or common, it isn't the specifics of our problem that make this a bad experience. It is the unprofessional, rude and sometime arrogant staff which you are better off leaving to other unsuspecting people.

“Bonanza Changes 2010 update”

We stayed once more at the Bonanza Palace for most of January, on arrival we were surprised to see that there was no reception,just a huge picture of Mount Teide on the walls where it had previously been, the reception is now in the Canarife Palace where we had to check in, the staff there were the same and very pleasant, we were fortunate to be able to have the same room as last year, we also had a cold plated meal for our late arrival in the Bonanza dining room.

We were very happy with our room, unfortunately not so happy to see a huge section of the foyer cordoned off for Saga Holiday clients, they had previously had their own private room in the Canarife Foyer which was good as they didn't interfere with the hotels other guests seating arrangements, there was plenty of room to sit down there if you wished to relax.

The Bonanza was left with very little seating for us and other guests to enjoy, what there was tended to be taken by Saga as they didn't all contain themselves in their private area, they wandered around with their free drinks being very noisy, some nights they held a quiz in there which could be heard all over the hotel, as there were apparently over 200 of them at the time we were there we felt like we were living in an old peoples home and we aren't young ourselves, I am not being disrespectful in any way to them, then they all started with vomiting and diarrhoea, coughs and colds which was the main topic of conversation among them, it spread like wildfire, my husband got the bug but fortunately got some tablets from the pharmacy which cured it. The hygiene in the dining room especially left a lot to be desired, people coughing and sneezing into their hands and handling the serving tongs, often leaving them with the handles in the food, touching all the fruit, I even saw one Saga client tasting all the ice creams with the same spoon to decide which he wanted.

We spoke to a group of Germans who had been going there for many years, staying for 6 to 8 weeks, they were seriously thinking about not going again if Saga was still there next year and we feel the same way. A lovely hotel spoilt.
