“Treated Very Very Bad Read This!!!!!!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2007

Hi there everyone I just wanted to let others know about our stay at the Internacional Hotel. I read all the other comments before i went and was worried about our stay. Here is our experiance at the hotel.

On arrival at the Hotel after our long 1hr transfer from the airport we were very pleased to have arrived at a what I would say to be a very posh entrance. There was a marble tiled floor all the way through the entrance and lobby and very very spacious with seating all around. We noticed straight away that the hotel was nearly empty very strange maybe that was because it was November!!!
We were greeted with our room keys with meal and bus times too. The room itself was very spacious with nice en-suite and very clean. Our balcony looked onto the nice gardens that were looked after in the hotel grounds. Overall the rooms were very nice and they were cleaned everyday with clean towels too what more could you ask.

I travelled with my fiance and also her father who was looking forward to the stay as it had been a while since he last went away. We all got changed into swimwear to go relax in the heated pool only to find it FREEZING and apparently broken.
After that let down we had a shower and went down to the resturant for some tea. The resturant is all self service and buffet style with waiters that sometimes ignore you or ask if you want any drinks depends what mood they are in. For the first five days the food choice for tea was absoloutly terrible ranging from mouldy bread and cold chips to salad that looked like it had been there days on end, and with a choice of two or sometimes 3 trays of food to choose from. So even though we paid half board we had to eat out every night.
Breakfast was ok with eggs every morning with sometimes bacon or beans never both.

THIS WAS UNTILL!! On our last two days a group of 50 or so spanish couples and groups all above the age of 70 turned up and as if by MAGIC the pool was turned on and the food choice was amazing fit for a KINGS banquet too much food to choose from.
Why was this? was it because we wasn't spanish? I asked to see the manager and all he had to say was it had been the same all week even the pool was on too. He was saying it with a smile on his face and didn't do or say anything to make up for it he really wasn't bothered WE WERE SO MAD.

Puerto de la Cruz itself was nice the weather was hot for November and Loro Park was definatly the highlight if you like wildlife. Lago Martinez is perfect place to spend the day sun bathing and the cafes are very nice just to sit there and watch the world go by.

All in all if you have the choice dont go to this Hotel but that is just my opinion based on what happened to me. The Hotel could be really popular if it was ran by somebody who cared. Maybe that was why it was empty!!!!!!

“All in all pretty dissapointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2007

We returned yesterday from our week long stay at The Internacional Hotel in Tenerife, and I must say it is the first time I've ever been so eager to get home from a holiday!!

We booked this holiday as an allocation on arrival, as did many others who were placed at this hotel- and after our experience it is something we will NEVER do again.

We realise that you obviously take the risk with allocation on arrival, but it is still dissapointing when you have taken a week out of work and then wish you hadn't bothered!!

My first misgivings when we arrived at the hotel was the obvious distance from the main area of the town and the sea front. But when we stepped into the reception area we were both pleasantly surprised by how nice the groundfloor area was. It is a very spacious and clean reception area leading into an open bar area with lots of seating. They also have internet access for 1 Euro for 10 mins- which helped pass some time when the weather was bad!

At reception we were given our room key, bus card showing the times for the courtesy bus, and meal card with times for breakfast and dinner.

When we got up to our room at first we were quite happy- it was a fairly spacious twin room, with a bathroom with a full suite. Then we realised that our room looked out onto the main road- which in it's self wouldn't have been a problem. However, the patio door onto the balcony didn't fit properly, and wasn't double glazed so you could not tell the difference in noise level whether it was open or closed!

If you like a lie in on holiday I would advise you to take earplugs so that you can sleep past 6:50am in the morning, as this is when the rush hour traffic really gets going, not to mention the 4 dogs (belonging to the people in the house next door to the hotel) start barking.

The 'restaurant' has more of a feel of a school canteen, with harsh lighting and quite a sterile feel- which is actually quite different from the bar area it is set off of.

Some nights we were shown to a table, others just left to find our own. And on the first night it was a bit like 'follow what everyone else does' as noone really explained the set up. Again sometimes we were asked by the restaurant staff if we would like drinks, other times we were just ignored.

The food for both breakfast and dinner was very repetitive. Tuesday was supposed to be local food, but was no different from the rest of the week. Every night there was the same salad dishes, a couple of meat dishes, and alternate mashed potato or chips. Pudding was cold rice pudding, creme caramel, ice cream or a flavoured pudding like angel delight. Alot of the food tasted like it came straight out of a packet.

We were sick of it by the end of the week, and very grateful we hadn't booked two weeks. We also heard alot of other people complaining about the food.

The bar staff were quite friendly, and they had plenty of choice of alcoholic drinks and soft drinks, which were cheap compared to British prices. But don't expect anything exciting to happen at the hotel in the evenings as it doesn't!

The outside space was quite nice, with a nice heated swimming pool, and enough loungers to go round. There is also an outside bar by the pool. In general the outside space was pretty and well kept. The hot tub wasn't working while we were there.

The courtesy bus is very handy, but you need to be waiting a few minutes before it is due to leave as it goes on the dot...if you turned up outside the hotel at 9:02am you would probably find it had already gone. The same applies on the way back- we turned up at the shopping centre, where it picks you up, at 10:20 one day only to see it on it's way back to the hotel. (it is supposed to wait until 10:30 for the trip back!) So then had to wait another hour.

We did walk down to the town, and Playa Jardin beach a couple of times, which takes about 30 mins. In the hot weather it is the walk back which is pretty hard going as it is all up hill!!

I would recommend going to Loro Parque- you can catch the free yellow train to the zoo from the sea front. (queues for that get very busy after 10am). And also a visit to the Lido is very worthwhile, if you don't want to walk to Playa Jardin beach. This is on the sea front and has lots of different sized pools and for the small entrance fee you get a sunlounger and can stay all day. The pools here are salt water, and are not heated.

The majority of the people at this hotel were older couples. I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know. Unless you are looking for somewhere away from the main 'goings on', with little happening in the evenings, and the same food everyday I wouldn't go there.

“Lovely town”

The area is really lovely and the people are very friendly, some beautiful places to visit. Of the island as a hole we certainly landed lucky and the weather for Nov. was marvelous- above average. The only downside was the hotel food,it was not very hot and it was monotomous___all self-service,unimaginative.For an area such as where Tenerife is I would have thought the scope for local food in the hotel would have been excellent--but no! The staff and cleanliness were excellent

“Great hotel”

Excellent hotel. Friendly staff, great facilities, warm pool! Okay, the food wasnt great but it was more than edible! After reading the reviews on this site I wondered whether booking it had been a bad idea but after going there i can say that these people are CRAZY! It was a clean, friendly hotel. It was a little out of the way but a 5 euro taxi ride got you anywhere you needed to be. My advice would be to use this hotel and eat out a few nights!! I would return

“RUN, RUN AWAY and take a vomit bag with you”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2006

Please read all the negative comments found on this hotel and you will get a very clear picture of what this hotel is all about. It is RUBBISH!

Dogs are better fed that what is served up to guests. So, if you're stuck in this hotel, whatever you do, DO NO eat here. The food is beyond disgusting (mystery fish swimming in sauces, fatty cold-custs, faux-cheese, tinned peeled tomatoes served for breakfast - YUCK). The food is truly three-fingers down the throat, knucles and all, vomitous. At least half of the evenings, I couldn't stand it any longer and we went out for dinner. Fortunately, there is a very nice and inexpensive roast chicken restaurant just up the road (not the direction of the port - ok to walk).

Entertainment is twice a week - and involves either kitschy flamenco or 'variety', performed in the middle of the hotel lobby to clapping OAPs by amateur dancers who tend to lose bits of costumes as they twirl. Go to the port - its dramatically more entertaining.

90% of the hotel is senior citizens (Germans or Spaniards - with whom apparently they have deals). The remaining 10% are poor misguided schmucks like us who THOUGHT they were getting a good deal. HA!

We stayed in the apartment (3 bedrooms) on the top floor - but it is next to the lift machinery. So day and night, our rooms rattled and shaked. It was a nightmare. The beds and furniture must have been bought at a 1960s jumble sale. I have spent more on physical therapy since coming back from sleeping on their beds than the holiday cost! Staying at the 'Internacional' is a bit of a false economy.

The only saving grace was the fact that we had a car and we could ESCAPE. Pity the people who had to depend on the irregular hotel bus service. And yes, it takes anywhere between 10-15 minutes to drive to the port. I can't imagine walking downhill (and walking back??? HOW? It's a mini-motorway and sometimes there is no sidewalk...)

I hope the hotel owner reads this review so that she can decide to either fix this mess or get out of the hotel business. I suspect the latter would be more appropriate.

Incidentally, I am half-Spanish and obviously my Spanish is fluent, so there is no excuse of miscommunication....This hotel is rubbish.
