I spent a week at this Hotel at the end of August and enjoyed it very much. Although there are ongoing road works (much of Puerto de la Cruz's roads are being converted into more pedestrian friendly boulevards) nearby, this did not detract from the qualities of the Hotel itself and, when finished, will improve the area. Although out of the main town (not a problem with the free shuttle bus) it is close to the Botanical Gardens and a nice partly residential, partly tourist quarter. The Staff are excellent, being both friendly and efficient. All the public areas are comfortable and smart. The lower pool area and bar are particularly nice, and the added wi-fi coverage enables an early evening drink by the pool while catching up on email and news. The upper pool means going up a number of steps but it is quieter and tends to attract just Adults so is a nice oasis of tranquility. There is a main bus route passing the Hotel with bus stops right outside, so travelling around couldn't be easier. However, it is worth exploring the side streets, particularly those leading east along the cliff top since there are some lovely bars with terraces looking out over the north coast of the Island. The room was comfortable with one of the best bathrooms I have seen in a Hotel for some time. When I emailed the Hotel after returning home, to see if a lost item had been left in the room, they searched the room and replied within 24 hours.

We go every year to this hotel and have alrways been treated perfectly. The food was excellent, the pool the right temperature. The evening entertainment great fun. The room is comfortable, with a good mattress and pillows. It will be great when the road improvements outside are finished.

Yes, there are some little things that could be improved, such as some more towels in rooms. The gym needs to be renewed as well, and the machines in it checked to be in working order.

Hotel a little bit tired but renovation is in progress and our room had been the subject of a 2/3rd refit so fairly acceptable. The pool area at the lower level has been redone and is very nice but the upper pool is very average. The saving grace for the hotel is that the hotel staff are fabulous. However be aware that the air con is switched off at 11pm so sleeping is difficult!! When we mentioned this at reception they eagerly gave us a room fan which did work but surely it would be cheaper to keep the air con on for the people that want it on during the evening? we love Puerto de la Ccruz but would check the refurb is finished before booking at the Sol again, but would not dismiss a revisit there. Food ok but needs to have a bit more variety if you stay more than 1 week.

We have just returned from a 1 week stay at the Sol, Puerto de la Cruz. Our first time at this hotel but certainly not our first time in Puerto de la Cruz.

The first thing to say is that the hotel is currently surrounded by ongoing road works. The whole resort is undergoing a face lift and much of the work is currently being carried out on the doorstep of the hotel. It is very noisy and the surrounding access is dusty, dirty and very uneven. I would not recommend anyone to go to this hotel whilst the work is being carried out. Thomson failed to notify us of this prior to departure and I have written to them about this. We were informed, on arrival in Tenerife, that Thomson do not have a Rep in resort and this could be why they have not bothered to contact us prior to departure? The work will take some time and is likely to be a problem in and around the hotel for a few weeks. If you have booked to go to this hotel I would recommend that you contact Thomson prior to departure.

The hotel itself is fine (3 starish), although we had booked half board we did not have dinner, we prefer to eat out. The breakfasts were very pleasant and there was a good selection of hot and cold food available.

Evening entertainment is poor.

The staff are all very amenable and pleasant.

Our air conditioning did not work efficiently; something I see someone else has reported. It was not a huge problem though we did find it difficult sleeping at night and usually ended up on top of the covers rather than in the bed.

The hotel run a shuttle bus to and from the resort, I didn't use it preferring to walk, it is only available Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm. We had no problem going into town down the steps and at night usually got a taxi back (4 euro's incl. tip).

There are some lovely restaurants in town Il Rustico (under the cliff) and Mamma Rosa (near the port) are particularly good.

I have been to Puerto de la Cruz 5/6 times now and have yet to find a hotel I would wish to go back to, I will keep looking because the resort is lovely.
