“Great location, average facility”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

In mid-October, 2011 I spend two nights at the Hotel Valle Mar, as a walk-in with no reservation. The room was adequate; not spacious, rather dated looking, but comfortable enough for two nights. The best part was the location and view; it's right smack in the middle of the waterfront area. I paid a few extra euros for the ocean view, well worth it. With the promenade out front, there are endless people-watching opportunities, and I was mesmerized watching the waves roll in to break on the rocks.

Downside: this place charges deposits for the safe key and the tv remote. The wall-mounted hairdryer is ancient and useless, but you can request a more current model from the front desk. Bring your own soap and shampoo unless you are content with the wall-mounted all-purpose detergent dispenser.

Upside: location, location, location. Easy walking all over town, a very good bakery/patisserie around the corner, great views from the oceanfront rooms.

In the evening the live music from the bar downstairs provided lively and loud entertainment until around 10 pm. I enjoyed it, but if you prefer quiet evenings, this place is not for you.

Room Tip: Definitely opt for the ocean view rooms.

“Very good breakfast and nice view”

We have stayed twice at this hotel. It's perfectly situated and the breakfast is very good. But you have to like the sound of old-fashioned music till 11 pm. The cleaning is good but the rooms need renovation.

“If you want a smooth ,efficient, hassle free holiday try the VALLE MAR”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

We have just returned from a three week relaxing holiday mainly due to the Valle Mar Hotel. Puero de la Cruz.. Tenerife, it's staff and it's facilities. The hotel has the best view of the Promenade, the Lago Martianez bathing complex and the sea in the entire town, this is when viewed from one of the front seaview rooms, although the rear garden rooms are quiet and ideal for garden lovers. The rooms are large, comfortable, clean and relaxing, with good bathroom facilities ample wardobe space, excellent beds. and efficient cleaning staff.
The food is served buffet style with something for everyone. Breakfast could if you wish tide you over for the rest of the day ( although removing food from the dining room is not allowed and not necessary) A full English breakfast accompanied by a huge choice of fresh fruit , toast ,tea or coffee will set you up for a busy day sight seeing or a relaxing day sun bathing in the garden complex or on the roof top pool area. Dinner in the evening is excellent and as a fish lover I had at least three varieties of fish to choose from including swordfish , halibut and hake, nuff said. I must add that the dining room staff were excellent they gave you the impression that they knew you personally and if you liked a particular wine it was waiting for you each evening.
There is entertainment three or four times a week at this time in the season which is enjoyable but a bit repetative. There is a library with lot's of modern english books and the bars are as good as most of the outside competition. The only criticism I have on the bar is that it cannot compete with the Cafe de Paris next door. I'm sure that with a little effort the outside bar could be greatly improved.
Finally I would like to compliment the staff on their friendly and helpful assistance during the whole of our stay. Ana and Andres on the front desk were cool calm and helpful whenever we saw them.
This is my very first trip advisor review and I thought it might end up a bit over the top but on reflection NOT SO Hal & Ve Kerr..

“good average: prime location, relaxing, slightly overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2010

first off. you're right on the seafront. breathe in the Atlantic. forget about cars. exit the hotel, cross the pedestrian street, go to the excellent Martianez swimming pools (the reception provides free tickets). that's really a great feature of the hotel, which also has a rooftop pool & (humdrum) restaurant with a very enjoyable view.
do try to get a seafront room - the views are great, although some rooms (notably on the 4th floor) have been renovated and are now available at increased rates but do not quite live up to expectation. (unless you want to pay 80 euros more a day in exchange for a newspaper and some soft drinks).
also a plus: the rich breakfast & dinner buffets, consistently enjoyable. half-board is a definite recommendation, as the surroundings do not provide memorable dining.
the promenade cafè downstairs is pleasant enough for an after-dinner drink with some live music (very touristy, natch; though some of the performers are good).
the service has some dramatic ups and downs. waiters can be overly confident in buddy-like behaviour and a bit slow in delivering. room service does not meet four-star expectations; try finding 10 shampoos and not a single shower gel in your room.
a definite no-no for this reviewer was the sorry excuse of the hotel for not having wi-fi: when asked, at reception they will put a sign on the counter which states it is not available due to unwanted radiations. (you have to walk 30 metres to the McDonalds to get your wireless service).
overall the feel of the place is none too glamorous: you get the impression the hotel could have been a contender for top place in puerto de la Cruz, but they settled with busloads of German retirees on a budget, and adjusted their standards accordingly.
to sum it all up:
not recommended if you're full of top-tier expectations; but if you're willing to unwind, relax, have great breakfasts, enjoy the scenery and not be too prissy about things you might find it thoroughly enjoyable.

“Slightly disappointing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

This is our third stay at the Vallemar and the hotel was exactly as we had remembered. We booked a sea view room which overlooked the Lago Martianez - one of the best views we have every had. The service from reception/restaurants/chambermaids was excellent - the food is some of the best buffet food we have eaten (and we are experienced travellers). We also enjoyed lunch in the 5th floor restaurant adjacent to the swimming pool - excellent value for money and the most amazing view.

However - there was a problem - since our last visit in 2008 they now have a pavement cafe in front of the hotel with music until 11 p.m. - that would not have been too much of a problem, except that listening to it from our balcony every evening was rather repetitive. Then we settled down to sleep and at midnight the base thump of music??? from a nearby nightclub kicked in and did not stop until 2.00 a.m. This was every night except Monday.

We are probably not very tolerant. but judging the average age of the rest of the guests in the hotel, they would not have been either. Our last two visits have been in March, so maybe we were still in the high season - but I doubt if you would go to Puerto de la Cruz for the nightlife - it generally appeals to older travellers who appreciate the Canarian way of life.

Unfortunately we don't think we will stay at the Vallemar again - but still love Puerto de la Cruz - and maybe we are a little too sensitive to noise at night.

Overall we had a great holiday, but came home rather 'sleep deprived'
