Ok, we didn’t expected much after reading TA reviews, but we were tempted by a nice, cozy and silent resort that is Los Gigantes and we knew that we will not be spending time in a room, so we didn’t look for a perfect spot.
Set is amazing – just above the Los Gigantes port, overlooking harbor, giant cliffs and La Gomera, with restaurants and shops on the ground floor, close to the pool area (Lido Los gigantes), where there is a free entry for hotel guests. But that’s about it.
We have booked sea view apartment for 6 nights, but get rather port view and cliffs apartment – it was on the first floor, in the niche, so you could look straight forward only and I could barely see the sea and you could hardly get some sun there (it was constantly in the shade). I asked for moving to the second floor twice, but each time I was told that everything is booked and there is no such a possibility.
Generally approach to guests is rather strange – like ‘don’t bother me’… When we arrived, the lady at the reception was talking over the phone and didn’t bother to end and check us in, we had to wait approx 10 minutes, then when I came back with passport, she was talking to some colleague of hers at the reception and didn’t mind me at all until I did an “uh huh” sound. The other day when we came to ask something during the conversation with gentleman on the reception suddenly a cleaning lady came and interrupted us without any “excuse me” and the receptionist just cut the conversation with us and started talking about something with the lady from service and after several minutes he came back to us with any ‘sorry’ word or something… I travel a lot, but I have never seen that kind of attitude of hotel staff toward guests. At least the gentleman on Thursday was the best and he acted as a real hotel staff, really helping us.
Rooms are spacious, with bedroom and living room with dining area separately, but they have definitely seen better days. Needs to be refurbished, as it simply looks old. It was clean though. Beds were two single and extremely uncomfortable (hard and covered with some kind of oilcloth underneath the linen), so we rather did not get a good sleep.
You have to pay for everything there. For TV, for internet (available only at the reception), we have seen it before when we stayed on Fuerteventura. Nevertheless, we were allowed to print out our boarding passes at the reception for free, which was a kind gesture and is worth to mention.
There was no hotel parking, but we’ve managed to find a parking place in the Marina (in late evenings it is possible, but during the day it is rather hard to find any place to park).
To sum up –we were disappointed by Poblado Marinero apartments. Los Gigantes is charming, with fine pools, nice volcanic beach under the cliffs and possibilities to go for whales and dolphins watching (we did it with ‘Ocean Explorer’ and it was amazing) and with many restaurants, shops and groceries, but mainly for guests from UK (rather hard to find real Canarian food), which are rather expensive (comparing to other parts of Tenerife like Costa del Silencio, Puerto de la Cruz, even Santa Cruz). Generally it was OK, but we would rather not be back there for longer than a day.
