On arrival we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who could have if required talked to us in English. We were given a good size room with views over the Port. If you opened the window it was a little noisy with the roar of the traffic, but with the window closed it was just a hum. Room was cleaned every day and clean linen every other day. Plenty of choice at Breakfast. Ideal location for trips into the old town of Las Palmas and for anywhere else its a 2 minute walk to the main bus station. Buses are very frequent to Las Canteras or down to the south.

We got a pretty clean, updated room with a beautiful ocean view. It was nice to see all the ships sail away in the morning. The hotel is locally conveniently just minutes away by foot to the San Telmo bus stop (guagua stop in local parlance). From there you are connected to the rest of Gran Canaria by bus or taxi (there are always taxis available at the hotel lobby, also). The breakfast buffet (included for our room) was your standard hotel Euro continental with some hits and misses - overall not bad especially if you don't have to pay full price for it.

Beware there's a disco downstairs, which was quite loud until 3am-4am because it was the last night of Carnaval. Also an ocean windstorm came through and it sounded like it was going to break through the window glass at any moment - though the storm is hardly the fault of the hotel.

Staff was helpful and attentive. I see enough Brits and Aussies there so there must be sufficient English-speaking staff there.

We booked the Tryp Iberia Hotel mainly because of its proximity to the old town and the fact that they offered free parking. When we got there, the lot was full and the reception basically shrugged their shoulders. Street parking was not an option as it was full with government cars and not free of charge.

As time went by, we discovered other very annoying things about this hotel. The rooms had a terribly strong chemical smell, Later identified as Raid. I don't know what bugs they have but sleeping in one of these oversprayed rooms must be dangerous in itsefl.

Next, there is a disco at the entrance of the hotel. Thye open at 12 midnight and close in the morning. The level of noise is beyond description.

I booked a couple of nights online as I wanted to start exploring Gran Canaria from Las Palmas. The hotel was fine, but a little bit pricey for what you actually get. The room was pretty good, and the all-you-can-eat breakfast was splendid. I realised that being based in Las Palmas for a few more days would be good, but when I asked at reception, the price was significantly higher than what I'd already paid... 25% higher... so I decided to move on.
