“Still a 5 star experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed for a week at this hotel in 2007, and going back again to Las Palmas this year we wanted to stay here again. And yes, the place is still a 5 star experience! There has also been made some small refurbishments that makes the hotel look even better.

First of all, this hotel is a grand old lady. The hotel is perfectly clean. Rooms are nice, at least most of them. Not hip, but good old traditional ones! Some have a lousy view, try to get a room facing the outsides, front or sides. Breakfast is great, both cold and hot choices, and of course the champagne! Restaurant Terazza is a wonderful place with great food. The traditional looking bar is beautiful.

The hotel is situated in a beautiful park, do not forget to look at the part at the backside of the hotel, just lovely!

The hotel is situated between the beach (Las Canteras) and the Triana shopping street/the old town - Vegueta. 20 - 30 min to walk both sides, but taxi is very inexpensive if you do not want to walk!

When you stay at a place like this, you expect the best. Therefore there are a few things that surely could be better. Front desk personel do not speak English very well, or not at all. They do not speak German or French either, so they do not seem bilingual at all. We had roomservice one night, but though the room was made twice a day no-one removed the tray or replaced the used glasses with clean ones. The hotel has wifi in all rooms, but the quality is rather bad, and it falls out after a short time - so you have to log in once again! The outdoor pool is not heated, and because weather in Las Palmas can be rather cold, the pool is to!

But - in spite of all these small problems, it is still a lovely 5 star hotel, and I will certainly be back!

“Nice hotel.. but shouldn't it be better?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I think i should mention like many others have before, that this is certainly not a 5 star hotel. Of course i didn't expect to pay as much as i did for a real 5 star hotel.. but the impression i got when i walked in the lobby, was a bit different than the one that i got, when i walked into my hotel room.
Me and my partner arrived 2 hours before the check-in and we were welcomed by the helpful man at the reception who said that we don't need to wait. There was a problem with some kind of deposit money which was not mentioned in the booking documents nor by the hotel before our arrival. We didn't have any cash with us so we tried to find another solution and by the time we went to ask for supporting information, the reception staff had changed, instead of the nice staff we had before, we got an arrogant selfish lady handling our documents who totally ripped our first impression of the hotel. After having to wait for hours, we finally got the keys and went to see the room. To our disappointment our room was quite dated and small with non-working drawers and no balcony. The beds were squeaky and not as comfortable as they seemed. Later that day we tried to change the room but according to the reception, the hotel was full.
The room was meant for two people but there was only one pair of slippers and one bathrobe, disappointing. If you are an active internet user then don't count on the hotel's WIFI, it was awful! It takes more time to restart it in every 10 seconds than to actually use it.

Santa Catalina doesn't have a casino in the same building anymore, on our last night we decided to go and see the famous casino but surprisingly found out that the hotel had moved to Santa Catalina Park.
But i must say that the room-service was excellent, i also recommend the continental breakfast which is more than enough for 1 person and totally worth the price. The style of the room was also pleasant and the cleaning ladies do their work well, the towels and sheets were changed every day and our room was almost perfectly clean every single day.

For a simple family vacation this is definitely not the hotel but for a romantic getaway or why not... a simple treat for yourself, maybe.

“Top hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We only popped in there to have a look at it and we were mightily impressed. This is a seriously top hotel; easily the best in Las Palmas. It has very well-dressed staff; beautifully -laid tables with heavy cutlery and well-ironed white linen. It has a large open-air pool with plenty of room for sun-exposure.

Each Sunday morning, from 10.30 to 1.30 there is traditional Spanish music and dancing in the adjacent walled patio. This is wonderful; amazing costumes and the piercing sound of the Prado in the strong femal voice. Anybody can enjoy this, staying in the hotel or not. Highly recommended.

Staying here would be a memorable experience. It has a fine well-tended park in front. The location is quiet. The only minus is that it is in a part of town with little social activity and no restaurants. It is on the No1 bur route in to the centre of Las Palmas. If you go, take your Kindle..

“Colonial Style and a little geriatric, Location is great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

the welcome is quite good, check in friendly and fast, direct reservation,
the rooms are facing the park a very nice, big, clean, furniture colonial style, the bathroom is quite small, you have to organize your couple life before shower.
For diner go to Rias Bajas, perfect spanish kitchen, what ever you order.
The Breakfast in the Hotel has a very good offer the same for quality, the waiters are not the best, but you have to call them and you do your order they will serve you, the attention is not the best by the service, there attention belongs more to there colleagues.

Room Tip: Upper floor and Park view

“Classic Spanish Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This rebuilt hotel is in very nice condition. The rooms are a good size all with a balcony of some kind.
Breakfast is a nice buffet, and the formal dining room is excellent.
The bar service is either very slow or very efficient, depends on who the servers are.

Room Tip: Ask for a front of hotel with balcony
