Just had another week at the Castillo De Sol and I'm already looking forward to going back! The apartments are basic, but they are clean and the majority of staff are so friendly. Having stayed here numerous times its just like going to visit friends! The people staying here are also usually very friendly and many of them are repeat visitors. We met up with a group of blokes from Wrexham who were a great laugh. Lorraine is back doing the entertainment after a short spell on the reception and she is as good as ever. She makes a point of chatting to everyone and remembers everyones names. She's a lovely friendly person who doesnt pester you if you dont want to join in. There was a new Thomas Cook rep there called Claire who was a lovely girl, although I think she has now gone to another resort. I was sorry that there wasnt a few more cats around, as I only saw one around the pool bar whilst I was there - there use to be loads of them!
There have been some alterations made since I was last there - new seats in the pool bar, some painting around the pool, a new canopy at the entrance etc. Although I think that the insides of the apartments are now in need of a bit of a refurb and the sunbeds could do with updating. They are not particularly comfy and some are broken. They are also now very strict on reserving sunbeds before 10am, to the point where they came and told you off if you put your towel out before then. Which got a bit petty as it meant that at 9.45am people started to form a queue so that they could get the best beds! The TV's in the rooms have been replaced with new flat screen ones, but they are no longer coin operated. You have to pay something like 3 euros per day or 15 euros per week to use them. Personally we didnt use them, although had they been coin operated like previously then we may have put the odd coin in.
Despite a couple of criticisms, I would like to point out that we had a great time at the Castillo and we will return. There were 6 of us and we are all regulars at those apartments. It was infact my husbands 40th birthday and he had a wonderful day, taking part in mini golf, darts and winning a cocktail on bingo, plus getting a free bottle of bubbly as it was his birthday.
There are many great places to eat in the resort and some very cheap bars. Our favourite restuarants were La Cabanna and El Pescadors. Bars included Kim and Steves Pub, Sun Spot and M&M's. The Pub has entertainment on most nights and we saw Michael Jackson and Dolly Parton acts, who were both good. Kim and Steve are also very good hosts.
Looking forward to returning.
