“3* hotel 1* food”

Hi readers, the hotel oasis tropical in fuertenenture is a really nice complex, the pool areas are spacious, well kept and plenty of sun loungers. 3 pools, one heated in the winter, one baltic in the winter and a childs pool. the pool bar is good and the waiter was very polite. The apartments are very very spacious, everything that you need. we stayed for a week and in the week the maid came and changed our towels twice, and only left 2 big towels and 2 hand towels, so was a problem for one of us considering 3 adults so one of us had to get showered and dried with a hand towel, the apartment was swept and mopped once and that was because we asked the maid to otherwise she would not have at any point in time, but she was pleasant. there is a TV in the room only had one channel which was sky news but the hotel gave teasers so that people with kids could watch the other english chanels such as cartoon network, disney chanel and movies for men for a short period of time 2 mins then would go off. to buy these chanels cost 28 euros for the week and 10 euro deposit for the remote. The entertainment was in house reps, now these reps worked really hard day and night, Tom, Karen and clare, they are so good at what they do, the activities in the day time are run several times throughout and in the evenings they have entertainments such as quizes, karoke, the zone which is the game show, the cube. these were very entertaining. we made lots of new friends and everyone was really friendly including the staff and holiday makers. The food is very poor, not a lot to choose from, breakfast was ok such as scrambled egg, tin tomatoes, sausage and mushrooms, these where served hot, BONUS the usual cold breakfast items like cheese, ham, bread or buns, the usuual tea, coffe, juice, now for the lunch and evening meals, these were mostly cold and not a lot of choice, example one night the choices were tuna pie, meatballs, pasta chips and the usual cold selections, I had pat'e on bread for my evening meal that night. we as a family spoke to the thomas cook rep regards the food and she said what do you expect for a 3* complex, but I must say ive been away in 3* hotels 21 other times and have not ever experienced such poor food, we as a family were not alone because whilst we were there a lot of complaints went in. While on our weeks holiday there were 8 apartments broken into to and items including money were stolen, even whilst people were sleeping, again people went to the rep and she said yes ok but was happening all over the island, and said that people didnt really need to be concerned out this, we asked why had she not told us at our rep meeting and she said she didnt think it was important, I TOLD HER THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE INFORMED SO THAT THEY CAN TAKE EXTRA CARE TO ENSURE THAT WINDOWS OR PATIOS WERE NOT LEFT OPEN TO ENSURE SAFETY. The hotel was in a good area, close to a supermarket and a square of shops, the main strip for shopping and pubs ect was 7 mins walk away which was a nice stroll, the beach was 10 mins away and again a nice stroll. I would go back to this complex if the food was looked at because all the other about the hotel was good and as I said a really friendly complex.

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS!”

Stayed here for two weeks & can safely say hand on heart it was a total horror!

Location: This house of horrors is located in a hill (like Bates motel in Hitchcocks Psycho). Its not in the resort itself. Its a barren looking sight to say the least.

Staff: Unhelpful, unfriendly, couldnt care less, shifty...& the list goes on! One was arrested when we stayed for being involved in robbing the guests rooms!

Facilities: A pool that was so full of chemicals the poor kids I seen were getting skin & I burns!

Rooms: Toilet broke, locks not working on doors, wifes hairdryer blew up when plugged in, beds broken, no air con, ants everywhere, never cleaned....

I was actaually worried before we got there because the night before I had been watching hotel holidays from hell & realised it was this place I was watching on telly!

My strong strong advice....stay seriously clear of this place, for your health, your familys health. You will never regret not going beleive me.

“Just come back brilliant week away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

well i went here with the wife and my 18 year old son we met loads of nice people and the staff in the main were excellent the guy behind the bar (sebastian) was terrific and the lad who organised the day time activities was superb overall the place was a little tired i suppose but it had been up 22 years or so but the food was brilliant and the pool cold but good we stayed for 7 nights and had different food every time breakfast dinner and main meals all different and good choices i thought that it would be good to have warm plate but hey the system aint the same in spain as over here and the majority of the food is salds etc a good offering of fish and meat dishes eat different meals every night as much or as little as you like, the receptionist was good and could not do enough for us on the last day when they suplied towels etc for showers before we left they could not have been more helpful
heard one or two complaints when we arrived but after staying there for a week i would say some people are not happy whatever they do so to cap it off try it you really do get a good deal we paid 900 for 3 of us all inclusibve including transfers so no complaints from us YES i would go back without a doubt

“Excellent Room. Value for money 5*. Food dreadful !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

This hotel I booked for a two week break in August.... alone! I wanted a great pool, great weather and peace and quiet and got exactly what I was looking for. £750 for two weeks including transfers on an all inclusive basis. Fantastic.
Firstly - do not book transfers. Less than 5 mins drive from airport (no aircraft noise from hotel through) and costs around five euros. An abundance of white estate taxis (Mercs & Audis) wait outside. First impression of exterior of hotel ... hmmm but when you walk through reception it is like opening the wardrobe in Narnia. A fantastic pool area with swim up bar. Sunbeds galore and a faint sound of music.
My room was an apartment in the main hotel. #125. Excellent. Twin bedroom with ample wardrobe space and (very costly!) safe. Bathroom, clean and ample, Fully equipped kitchen area with hob, fridge and sink. Living area with sofa that would convert into a bed, table and four chairs. Pine dresser unit for storage etc. Plenty of plug sockets. Wall mounted tv (I didnt turn it on). Balcony overlooking the pool with the sea in the distance. Couldnt have asked for more. Bliss.
I am happy that plastic cups should be used around the pool area in the daytime for safety reasons but am not happy that these are all that are offered in the evening. I personally (call me a snob) cannot drink out of a plastic cup. There was always one barman on in the evenings and the queues for drinks neverending. I took myself and a bottle of wine up to my balcony in the evenings and enjoyed chilled decent wine from a glass! recommended.
The food, well (hmm)... At one lunchtime the food offering was: tinned ravioli, tinned meatballs, globs of rice, chips and overcooked brocolli. The salad bar was always: lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, pickles i.e red cabbage, gherkins etc tinned sweetcorn and tinned SARDINES!!! That said there was always french bread (delicious). Breakfast was the same everyday :baked beans, rolled ham (bacon every other day), sausages, fried eggs and some sort of savoury donut! There is a toaster and sliced bread. At the end of the day this was a very very cheap holiday so something had to give... in this case it was the food/drink element. Very few service staff which of course keeps the running costs low. That said, it was kept spotlessly clean but a never ending army of cleaners.

Room cleaning is done everyday except wednesdays and saturdays and towels are changed when left in the bath.

The area around is hard to describe. It is like a new town that hasn't really started. Lots of construction has happened but nothing seems to be lived in. There is a 'long' coastal walk that takes around 1 hour from hotel to Caletta beach or a 1/2 hour one through the moon like waste land close to the hotel Caletta is small but bustling. Typical tourist town but good value. Camels on the beach beat Donkeys for me!!!

All in all this was a great holiday. The pool was fantastic. Weather glorious and the people make the holiday. Everyone was really friendly. For all its food/drink faults, I would return here. I read loads of books, swam lots and got a great tan!

The three resident cats are totally adorable, running up and down the palm trees. They wait outside the 'dining room' for breakfast and reappear for their dinner in the evenings. They are totally spoilt by guests ( they do love a few friskies that can be purchased in the shop for around 2 euros. They appreciate it, so would I ). The cats lounge in the sun all day and guests frequently stop for a stroke.
