“Great value for money - Tranquil retreat”

We went to Fuertaventura as a young couple. We would strongly suggest first of all that you do not book airport transfers as you can get a taxi right outside the airport that will only cost you around 8 Euros each way. The hotel will arrange your taxi back which arrived in seconds when we ordered it from the reception.

When we arrived at the hotel, we went for a walk to explore the surrounding area. We quickly realised that the area was quite desolate. The hotel isn't based in the main part of Fuertaventura and so there wasn't an awful lot around. This was fine for us as we were looking for a relaxing break as oppose to a party atmosphere. If you are looking to go out partying every night, this is not the hotel or area for you. We enjoyed it however as we were only looking to relax and it is really peaceful and good for that.

In the area, there are a number of restaurants (around 8) that are within walking distance. There are also a number of bars, most of which being Irish bars (Mustang Sally's is good for food). There is a lovely little cafe called OopsyDebsy's that serves a full English breakfast on a morning for 3,50 euros. Really good deal. This cafe is attached to the outside of the hotel if you turn left on your way out. The beer at the bars was really good for value, with pints costing between 1,50 and 2,50 euros a pint.

The hotel itself was really clean, quite a large hotel as you can see from the pictures. The cleanliness for the price took us aback. There were no cockroaches or other little critters. Really clean place. We stayed for 4 nights and the room was cleaned twice while we were there. We went self-catering and we had a hob and fridge etc. Perfect for cooking meals on an evening. We made use of the market round the corner for cheap beer, hams and cheeses for supper etc. On arrival at the hotel, the receptionist explained that, for 20 euros per day, you can choose to go All Inclusive. You can do this for as many days as you like, but all people staying in the room have to do it. So we did this for one day.

20 Euros for a day of All Inclusive was great value, but the hotel food was not that great. The breakfast selection was not a patch on OopsyDebsy's round the corner and the 'buffet' was limited throughout lunch and dinner (tea). The reason that it was good value was for the drink. Only one of us was drinking as the other was pregnant but the 20 euros was worth it for the amount of alcohol consumed! You can walk into the bar and serve yourself beer and wine (although they only have small plastic cups so it takes a few trips). At 3pm the proper bar opens where you can be served whiskey, vodka, cocktails etc. We would recommend doing it this way round if you are going to be drinking. If you are thinking of going All Inclusive just for the food, don't bother. The pool bar was closed when we went but we were told that this was due to open later in May.

On an evening, the hotel put on entertainment like snake shows etc (I held a snake!). These are good for the family travellers. The bar is at hand too which is nice. The staff are very friendly , particularly at the reception. The receptionists also speak really good English.

If you walk along the coast line near the hotel (you can see the sea from your balcony) and head right, you can walk to the next town (about 2 1/2 miles). This area (Fustes) is more built up and has loads more to do. There is a man made beach there which is lovely (There is no beach in the area surrounding the hotel). You can walk this in half an hour and it is a great day out.

Important tip - If you don't take suncream or aftersun with you, you will notice that there is none to buy anywhere in the area surrounding the hotel. My advice is get some from the next town for around 10 euros. There is a lady that comes to the hotel everyday by the pool to sell the stuff. We bought some and it cost us 19 euros a bottle! There are loads of shops in the next town that sell it.

The weather when we went was fantastic. As soon as we woke up on a morning, it was red hot, with temps reaching around 26 - 28 Celsius everyday.

Disability access is also really good. There is a lift to all floors and slopes into the pool.

There are loads of things to do for kids. There is a pool table that costs 1 euro but there are table tennis tables and tennis/football courts that don't cost extra. You do have to put a 10 euro deposit down for the balls etc but you do get this back.

There is also a gym that you can use for free until 7pm.

There are a number of massages and therapies that you can pay for (between 30 and 60 euros). These are held in your room. The jacuzzi on offer costs around 6 euros per person.

All in all, it was a fantastic holiday. Really relaxing and a really pleasant break. It was great value for money. We booked through onthebeach.com and had no problems at all with checking in to the airport or hotel.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short, relaxing holiday. Any more than one week and you may be struggling for things to do but overall a really great, clean place for the money.

Room Tip: All rooms have balconies that face the pool/sea

I always say you get what you pay for .We paid £570 for flights and hotel all inclusive !!!!
It was our 30th wedding anniversary and we had fruit and towel swans waiting for us on our arrival .The room was slightly dated but clean and we had beautiful views from the room. The food was adequate and pleanty of it.The breakfast pate and crusty rolls are delicious of a morning .
The staff were very helpful and the maids always freindly.
We were due to go home on the Saturday but our easyjet flight was cancelled due to the air traffic control strike. The staff were very helpfull rebooking us for an extra 2 days and trying to print off boarding passes for us.
All in all a restfull break

“Ok but a few gotchas”

In summary

Likes
-San Miguel at the bar was ok and the bar staff where great
-Walk down the coast is nice (20 minutes or so) and theres plenty of chipmonks
-Nice pool and general area with music through the day
-Its pretty cheap generally

Dislikes
-Food a bit samey and school meal like
-The constant con of not being able to get into the room (we heard at least 4 sets of guests getting the same treatment as us on seperate occasions.
-Entertainment in the evening was a bit drab whilst there isn't a great deal else about locally.

In detail

This is a difficult one to review, my partner and I grabbed a last minute deal, we'd never done all inclusive before and we had never been to Fuertaventura before but expected it to be similar to Gran Canaria and Teneriffe.

I would point out now that this was a very cheap deal £500 for everything for the two of us for a week.

We arrived at the aparthotel at 12, it should be noted that there is very little within the local vicinity (which is a good and bad thing), a few shops and two or three bars but anything else is a 20 minute walk down the coast (which is quite nice and gives you the opportunity to see some chipmonks).

We were not able to get into our room till 4, due to "spanish law" the hotel can leave you stewing until they have cleared the room etc (which we found more than a little weird), we checked back two or three times before we where given the key.

The all inclusive is ok, theres a help yourself drinks dispenser and the bar is open from 3, the staff seem to work hard and generally I would say globally it is a hardworking staff, reception and the bar staff seemed to be working all out.

Unfortunately this was out of season so the pool bar wasn't open (which wasnt the end of the world but would have been nice), I cant imagine the staff coping with the load in season as they seemed to have enough on the go as it was.

A few things to do around the hotel, tennis, table tennis, water polo and free wifi if you want to make use of it.

Our room was ok, but obviously had some ware and could have done with some maintenance, the curtains had holes, a few broken tiles and more concerningly there was a leak from the bathroom (though not serious). The door handle was also hanging when we arrived, the maintenance guy spotted me having a look at this and immediately repaired it (though you do wonder why the cleaning staff hadn't passed on that it was an issue earlier).

The food is ok nothing special and not kept at the greatest of temperatures (make sure you get in for food soon after it is served), there is a microwave which helps.
The whole thing had a big school meal feel about it, though obviously this could be the norm with all inclusives (weve never done it before). Generally main courses where a choice of, a fish, a meat, a pasta and the obligatory chips which spanish people must think is all we eat (and they may be right from the evidence of people staying with us). I think if your open minded with regards food you'll be fine with this, we had plenty of salad etc which was a refreshing change from home.

“excellent VALUE FOR MONEY”

fitst of all if you like hustle and bustle, then this is not the place for you,but if you like a nice 20 minute walk, with the atlantic by your side, you have all the hustle and bustle you'll need,
me and the mrs read the reviews, and went with an open mind,we took our 10 and 7 year old grandsons the mother in law and 3 close friends, and none of us could find anything to moan about, they do serve drinks in paper and plastic cups, but i would be the first to moan if one of us cut a foot open on broken glass, also both bars, pool and main, are on the side of the pool, yes the hotel could do with a few more staff, but they do a pretty good job with the staff they have, regarding the pool it was powerwashed and cleaned daily.
the beds were changed regularly, clean towels everyday,I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE MOANING ABOUT THE FOOD,it served some of the best food i have eaten in a 3 star and we have been all inclusive for years, some people want to try a 3 star in turkey! all in all we had a great holiday, and would reccomend this hotel to anyone on a budget, also the grandsons enjoyed the holiday and loved the food, also the activities, for which the kids can win a certificate, they enjoy it,so if you want a £ 5000 holiday for 1400 quid dont go here, but if you want sunshine in abundance, good food, nice pool, lovely staff, and a clean hotel, where you can get a decent kip, you.ll love it here,WE DID

“Cheap and cheerful.”

I often wonder how some people give such harsh reviews for some hotels when I find them ok? Well now I'm getting it, after our first impressions I could quite easily have rated this place as rubbish, written a list of faults as long as your arm and allowed it to ruin our holiday but I don't really think that helps anyone so I will try and be more constructive.......

We booked a late (pretty cheap) deal here, I kind of hoped that we had snagged ourselves a gem but actually we got exactly what we paid for! Nothing special, all sorts of minor gripes but truth be told it was a really enjoyable week. My "useful" advise/information would be:

1) No beach towels so make sure you take your own.
2) Plenty of sun beds but only 5 fixed brollies so shade is a premium.
3) If you are a fussy eater then prepare for chips every night as the rest may not appeal (we found something nice every meal time but the kids struggled).
4) Take your own hairdryer as they charge 5 euro's a day to hire one.
5) You will need 25 euro's (+ 10 deposit) to the safety deposit box key!
6) Great transfer (only 10 mins), hotel is on the landing flight path so even though the planes pass over pretty low the noise isn't at all intrusive.
7) Strange times (3am) for the bin men and other noisy trucks so light sleepers will need earplugs.
