We went to Fuertaventura as a young couple. We would strongly suggest first of all that you do not book airport transfers as you can get a taxi right outside the airport that will only cost you around 8 Euros each way. The hotel will arrange your taxi back which arrived in seconds when we ordered it from the reception.
When we arrived at the hotel, we went for a walk to explore the surrounding area. We quickly realised that the area was quite desolate. The hotel isn't based in the main part of Fuertaventura and so there wasn't an awful lot around. This was fine for us as we were looking for a relaxing break as oppose to a party atmosphere. If you are looking to go out partying every night, this is not the hotel or area for you. We enjoyed it however as we were only looking to relax and it is really peaceful and good for that.
In the area, there are a number of restaurants (around 8) that are within walking distance. There are also a number of bars, most of which being Irish bars (Mustang Sally's is good for food). There is a lovely little cafe called OopsyDebsy's that serves a full English breakfast on a morning for 3,50 euros. Really good deal. This cafe is attached to the outside of the hotel if you turn left on your way out. The beer at the bars was really good for value, with pints costing between 1,50 and 2,50 euros a pint.
The hotel itself was really clean, quite a large hotel as you can see from the pictures. The cleanliness for the price took us aback. There were no cockroaches or other little critters. Really clean place. We stayed for 4 nights and the room was cleaned twice while we were there. We went self-catering and we had a hob and fridge etc. Perfect for cooking meals on an evening. We made use of the market round the corner for cheap beer, hams and cheeses for supper etc. On arrival at the hotel, the receptionist explained that, for 20 euros per day, you can choose to go All Inclusive. You can do this for as many days as you like, but all people staying in the room have to do it. So we did this for one day.
20 Euros for a day of All Inclusive was great value, but the hotel food was not that great. The breakfast selection was not a patch on OopsyDebsy's round the corner and the 'buffet' was limited throughout lunch and dinner (tea). The reason that it was good value was for the drink. Only one of us was drinking as the other was pregnant but the 20 euros was worth it for the amount of alcohol consumed! You can walk into the bar and serve yourself beer and wine (although they only have small plastic cups so it takes a few trips). At 3pm the proper bar opens where you can be served whiskey, vodka, cocktails etc. We would recommend doing it this way round if you are going to be drinking. If you are thinking of going All Inclusive just for the food, don't bother. The pool bar was closed when we went but we were told that this was due to open later in May.
On an evening, the hotel put on entertainment like snake shows etc (I held a snake!). These are good for the family travellers. The bar is at hand too which is nice. The staff are very friendly , particularly at the reception. The receptionists also speak really good English.
If you walk along the coast line near the hotel (you can see the sea from your balcony) and head right, you can walk to the next town (about 2 1/2 miles). This area (Fustes) is more built up and has loads more to do. There is a man made beach there which is lovely (There is no beach in the area surrounding the hotel). You can walk this in half an hour and it is a great day out.
Important tip - If you don't take suncream or aftersun with you, you will notice that there is none to buy anywhere in the area surrounding the hotel. My advice is get some from the next town for around 10 euros. There is a lady that comes to the hotel everyday by the pool to sell the stuff. We bought some and it cost us 19 euros a bottle! There are loads of shops in the next town that sell it.
The weather when we went was fantastic. As soon as we woke up on a morning, it was red hot, with temps reaching around 26 - 28 Celsius everyday.
Disability access is also really good. There is a lift to all floors and slopes into the pool.
There are loads of things to do for kids. There is a pool table that costs 1 euro but there are table tennis tables and tennis/football courts that don't cost extra. You do have to put a 10 euro deposit down for the balls etc but you do get this back.
There is also a gym that you can use for free until 7pm.
There are a number of massages and therapies that you can pay for (between 30 and 60 euros). These are held in your room. The jacuzzi on offer costs around 6 euros per person.
All in all, it was a fantastic holiday. Really relaxing and a really pleasant break. It was great value for money. We booked through onthebeach.com and had no problems at all with checking in to the airport or hotel.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short, relaxing holiday. Any more than one week and you may be struggling for things to do but overall a really great, clean place for the money.
