“Sunshine Break”

Our rooms in this Apart Hotel were clean and comfortable. It was a family room that slept 4, i.e. a separate double bedroom and sofa that doubles as two single beds in the sitting room. There is little storage for clothes one small wardrobe in the bedroom. The beds in the sitting area would only be suitable for children as they were smallish and quite low to the ground, they didn't make comfortable sofas, but sitting inside wasn't really an option when there was a large balcony/terrace. The sliding doors from the sitting area opened onto a balcony with table and 2 chairs which led onto a larger square area of terrace where the table could be moved to and 4 chairs plus be accommodated with ease. The kitchenette area was adequate so long as you didn't want to cook anything, the hob took so long to heat up I gave up. There is a microwave provided but no kettle or toaster. Kettles or Toasters can be hired from reception. There is a safe that can also be hired for the length of your stay. The apartment was clean and airy and the standard of daily cleaning was good. We stayed half board and there was plenty of food and we were able to generally find something from the buffet style service although the hot food was always warm as opposed to hot. The food is generally catered for families and whilst we were there of the approximate 70 tables in the dinning room only maybe 10 of them didn't have children with them. The complex is very nicely kept and the gardens well manicured. The two swimming pools are clean with plenty of sunbeds available. The pool nearest the restaurant and bar is where most of the entertainment for children is held whilst the other pool was used more by families with babies or people without children. Calan Bosch is a wholly tourist resort so if you want some culture visit Ciudadella a short bus ride away. We would return for another sun and lazy holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the pool or with a sea view, not the road side.

“Disappointed :-(”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We arrived at the hotel at 11.30am to discover that ours rooms were not ready and wouldn't be until 2.30pm-3pm - not a good start. The Receptionists speak broken English, and to be honest with you they are quite miserable and not that helpful! The rooms are small and dated - the beds are rock hard and the sofa beds are ready to be replaced, you can feel every spring and they creak with the slightest movement - also no good if you are over 5ft 6inches, feet dangle! We were travelling as a family with 2 teenagers (16 & 14) - our room was so small we didn't go to it unless we had too - the set up with the 2 sofa beds is madness! There is a very small wardrobe in the bedroom and a small cupboard in the kitchen area - that is your storage!! The TV only broadcasts in English Sky News & CNN - there are NO English music channels or Games room as stated on the Grupotel website. There is not many English guests staying at this hotel.... The pool towels can be hired for a 10 euro deposit, but they are quite old and look grubby! The Bar staff are fab, they are really friendly and love to look after you. One negative point for the bar & restaurant was that they did not have any San Miguel for the week we were there!! My husband thought that was very strange. The Restaurant is very good, a wide selection of foods for adults, not much going on for children. The evening opening times are 7.30pm-10pm - maybe rather late for young child to eat?! Breakfast is from 8am-11am. The Snack bar sells pizzas and toasties for lunch, or you can pop over the road to Julia's Supermarket where you can buy freshly baked bread and pizza slices - they were happy to make us baguettes, which were fantastic, ham, cheese or tuna all with salad for 2 euros each. The Entertainer, Razvan/Dean is fantastic, he is a lovely man who makes you feel so welcome. We had so many laughs with him. The evening entertainment is ok - bingo, the quiz's and the Disney night were the best - the Robbie Williams tribute was a tad rough, especially the backing 'singers'....... The position of this hotel is great, direct access to the beach and the marina is about 5 minutes away, walking either across the beach or around the roads...

“Chill out at the Aldea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

We booked the Hotel Aldea less than a week before travelling at the end of August through First Choice on an accomodation only basis having booked our flights seperately. We had looked at previous reviews that advised that the hotel was predominantly German cleints and that it was clean and the staff were friendly. We found all this to be true, the rooms were a good size although there were only 2 eletric rings on which to cook. We had booked breakfast for the duration of our stay and ate out every evening so this did not affect us. Our only critisism was that the beds were a bit uncomfortable but they were bearable.
Breakfast was the only meal we had in the hotel so I cannot comment on the evening buffet but the breakfast was always tasty and plentiful with a great choice.
The rooms were cleaned 5 out of the 7 days we were there, always to a good standard.
The pool area was clean and well kept and most of the time there was a life guard on duty. There were pleny of sunbeds and although it was August, neither pools (there are 2)were ever crowded and we always found free beds whatever time of the day we used the them.
There is a path leading from the hotel directly onto the Cala n Bosch beach which is a sandy beach and was quite busy. The Son Xoriguer beach s a 10 minute walk away from the front of the hotel but is worth the extra stroll.
We always found the staff friendly and helpful and ready to give advise/directions/assistance etc if asked.
We have 2 children of 10 and 5 years and although there was a hotel run kids club, we did not use it. As mentioned before there were quite a few German families at the hotel but there were some English guests as well and the kids found other children to play with while at the pool.
The hotel had a laid back, tranquil feel to it which is exactly what we wanted. If you are looking for 'full on' kids clubs and 'in your face' entertainment then this hotel is probably not for you but for a more relaxed 'take it at your own pace' holiday it is ideal.
There is a handy supermarket across the road for your essentials which is no moer expensive thean the larger shops around the harbour.
All in all we had a great holiday and would return to this hotel.
my tips for a holiday to Cal n Bosch would be;
Visit the caves at Cala n Porter, for a laid back resort with a great beach visit Santo Thomas, the water park at Cala n Bosch was great for our kids (10 & 5), The kids loved a visit to Goody Goody play area for the carts/bouncy castles/trampolines/mini golf etc. which is near the entrance to the harbour in Cala n Bosch. The Tropicana Restaurant serves great food (on the harbour). Hire a car or a few days- it's so easy to find your way about the island. Visit Cuiladela old town on market day.

“Right on the beach but nice and quite.Great for children”

A lovely family atmosphere ! The hotel was in a great location with access straight onto the beach. We found the staff very friendly and the 2 pools were a nice size. We found the clientele a mix of english Spanish, Italian . The food was good considering the size of the hotel. Everywhere was clean and tidy, maids coming in most days to clean and give fresh towels. There were 12 in our party and I am pleased to say no putting towels on the sunbeds was necessary as there were plenty spare with parasols too.
Supermarket Julia across the road was great and very well stocked. Fresh baguettes, and rolls/cobs ect made up to order and very reasonably priced. There is another beach as you turn right out of the hotel at the main entrance this is a 10 min walk away and clearly sign posted.

We loved the walk to the marina in the evening, plenty of things to look at especially for the kids, lots of bars and even a bucking bronko ! (To which I did not go on !). Calan Bosch is mostly aimed at families and seems to be quiet by 11pm ish.

If you are planning a holiday at this hotel I would strongly recommend it, Apartments basic but clean and generally has a good vibe . Would definitely go again but for longer .

“lovely hotel, excellent value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

Just returned from a one week stay in a one bedroom apartment at the Grupotel Aldea with my husband and two children, aged six and five. We had a fantastic holiday and the Aldea was perfect for us and met our expectations based on it being a three star apart-hotel and thought it provided excellent value for money.
I was anxious that a one bedroom apartment would not feel sufficient having stayed in two bedroomed apartments for the previous two years but was very happy with the apartment and it met our needs well. The air-conditioning (which sadly due to a not-so-good week of weather we did not need to use much) seemed to work very well. The reception hire quite a few different items suh as pool towels, kettles etc. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the hotel was laid back and did not feel overcrowded at any time. There were always plenty of sunbeds, not once needing to 'reserve' them by way of putting towels out and the pool and surrounding areas were very clean The pools are fantastic for children and adults and were larger than I had expected from brochure pictures.
I was most impressed with the food at both breakfast and dinner. Very varied and well cooked, some of the best hotel buffet food I have had. The style of cusine was mediteranean for the most part. We didn't use the mini club facilities as such but my children enjoyed taking part in some activities in the pool and the mini disco. The lady running the entertainment was very sweet and she invited us along to a magic show which took part at nearby Grupotel.
Finally, the location is perhaps one of the best in calan bosch, being a one-minute walk to Calan Bosch beach and easy walk to both marina and Son Xoriguer. It has an excellent shop on its doorstep and we found car hire at Nuracar very good service.
If you want a low-rise 3 star apart-hotel set in pretty gardens with great food and good pool, I feel the Aldea is an excellent choice. We would definately return.
