Four friends departed 4/12/2011 after staying 7 days. This hotel is undergoing major reconstruction and refurbishment which will not be complete until April 2012 - ceilings and walls coming down in one half of the hotel. When this half is finished they will start on the other. Builders start work at 8am but as we are early risers and did not spend much time in the hotel during the day this was not too much of a problem.
Staff all very pleasant and eager to please but food very mediocre. Chips every day with everything, no fresh vegetables until last day. Tasteless soups, sauces and pastas, unappetising food except for the cold meats, cheeses, salads and fruit which didn't involve any cooking. Breakfasts were fine apart from crispy fried eggs and the breads were really good.
Hopefully, when this renovation is complete and the hotel is brought up-to-date, management will look at improving the standard and quality of food that is served up to guests.
My rating would be lower if it wasn't for the pleasant and helpful staff. especially the waiters, who were brilliant on the days they prepared the food for us.
Perhaps the Manager, who we were unable to talk with, should eat in the restaurant at night to sample what guests are being given.
Room Tip: All rooms are being gutted so it is not possible to recommend a room as numbers will probably change...
