“Pleasant surprise - quiet, relaxing, almost perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

I was really not looking forward to this place but had to stay here as a conference I attended was held here. This is the sort of hotel that I would never have stayed at voluntarily up to this point. It is a large mass tourist hotel where everything seems to revolve around the pool and the bar. Some of the negative reviews on this website did not help alleviate my anxiety.
Well, it was a rather pleasant surprise. The room was spacious, clean and quiet with a comfortable large bed and individually adjustable aircon. It had an anteroom with a closet and a door separating it from the main room. Therefore noise from the corridor was no problem (and there really wasn't any noise anyway). It also had nice balcony to relax on (although the cheap plastic chairs out there did not please). I really appreciated the quiet on the room here after the horrors of the Santa Clara downtown (see separate review). June was shoulder season so the hotel was not full and had a relaxed, spacious feel to it. Hanging out by the pools was very relaxing. Food and service was excellent. The gym wasn't great but it did the job (a rack of dumbells and a few cardio machines). It's true that the hotel is in a residential area (rather upscale) and therefore you need a car or taxi to go downtown. But the ride is 5-10 minutes and the upside of being outside the old town is that you can look at it from above (the hotel is on a hill).
I was really surprised how much I enjoyed my stay in this place. Changed my perspective on this sort of hotel entirely. Would recommend that you book a sea view room on a high floor and away from the corner with the restaurant and the bar to ensure that live music won't disturb you on the room, though.

“should be named 'mal'paraiso, not valparaiso - If you want 5 * stay somewhere else!”

We stasyed here ffor 2 weeks. From From the very beginning this hotel was a disaster.

We booked a room 6 months previously and spoke to the hotel - in person - about a double bed. On arrival there was no manager to speak to, no double bed and we were forced to agree to pay extra for a suite if we wanted a double for that night. We had to change rooms, hardly convenient or relaxing with a baby on board. Every time we complained, with legitimate reason, we were told all the problems were our problems. Having had a meeting with the manager, his 1st and only suggestion to rectify the many problems and ‘have the standard we expected’ (his words) was for his team to find us a different hotel.
In short; the fridge looked like it was an ecoli experiment, there are hardly any staff at the hotel, the guy who fixes the TV, also brings up new towels, there are no staff by the pool to assist, you have to walk up loads of stairs to get a towel if you need one by the pool and forgot to take one from your room. Forget having a drink by the pool. The bar is closed (we stayed height of summer – it was never open). If you go to the pool it’s just you and what you bring with. There is no service, no atmosphere, it’s like a deserted pool. The carpet in our room was full of stains. There really is no luxury here.

The staff are miserable on the whole. Bar a few exceptions, you are lucky to get a hello on arrival. There is no porter to help bring in luggage. Again, expect one chap who was helpful, the porters hang around inside the hotel, so no one to greet or help on arrival and when you drag your suitcases, pram and bags, on tow with baby and heavily pregnant wife, when coming into the lobby the porters just stare at you with a slight nod as if providing a half-hearted acknowledgment in a spaghetti western.

The aircon is fixed to save money, so if you want a cool room, make sure you put the aircon on and do not open any doors for 2 weeks, just stay in your room! The food was sent back, having complained at a tough, inedible piece of meat, the response was, ‘ah well – sorry’. No new dish, no offer of anything. The recurring attitude the entire stay was ‘tough, deal with it’.

Conclusion: this is a 3 star hotel with 5* prices. Apart from a nice spa, we had no idea how this hotel retains its 5* rating. Even in the spa we ended up going to other hotels for massages/treatments, as they were so unaccommodating and unpleasant. The service is dismal, the attitude awful, and it’s the worst located hotel on the island. Don’t waste your money.

“Luxury Hotel and quiet surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Five star rated hotel in quiet surroundings - 40 minute walk into the Centre of Palma. Local bus runs every 30 minutes and taxi rank just outside hotel. Stayed on 6th floor of hotel with panoramic views over Marina and Sea as well overlooking a delightful pool (2 in total). Room was cleaned to a high standard, decoration was good and small balcony with seating and a table. No tea or coffee facilities provided in the room, the mini bar was expensive. Two restaurants - one a la Carte - good selection of choices on the menu and not expensive. The Bistro was adequate choices for all the family and outside dining was optional. Price wise was average. Helpful receptionists but no concierge. We stayed bed & breakfast - a large selection of food available for all dietary clients. The bar was adequate and the services in all restaurants/bar was good. The Spa was excellent - sauna (2), steam rooms (2), tropical showers etc and large indoor pool. Gym was adequate for amount of clients who used it. The outside restaurant closed 2 years (La Gamba) which was a pity - outside dining by the pool would have be wonderful. The 2 swimming pools - located on 2 levels of the extensive grounds, we preferred the lower and larger pool as it had salt water in it. Plentiful loungers and drinks by bar staff very forthcoming. No courtesy bus into Palma which was a shame as I am sure many clients would have used it. We hired a car for 2 days and reception advised us on this. No hotel shop which would have been useful to buy basic provisions such as sun cream, postcards and magazines. Newspapers (very limited) were available in the dining room. The car hire company, Hertz, were the most least helpful during our stay did not explain the components in the car - attitude was fairly rude and not polite. I booked a treatment in the spa but was not told beforehand if the therapist was male or female. They use both. I cancelled my treatment when told it would be the opposite gender to me.
All in all we enjoyed our stay would return to the hotel.

“Fine building and facilities but substandard food in restaurant and bistro”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

We were arriving with great expectations to this hotel as this was our first visit to Majorca.
On entering the hotel with our luggage we were looking for some help to take our luggage to the Reception to book in. There was noi one in sight!

The concierge was in the Reception area and he booked us in. It is not the job for the concierge to do this. There was no other person at the reception. No bell boy either.
I was surprised that this is a 5* establishment.
For some ten days we had the same Menu in both Restaurant and bistro. This is UNACCEPTABLE!! They could not make a decent tossed salad either! As we booked in for full board and paid in advance which made our stay miserable.
The Room Service Menu was the same with a somewhat reduced items as the menue in the bistro.
The Restaurant and the Bistro was generally empty--whilst the bar area was visited by rowdy men drinking beer. This is not our idea of a 5* hotel and restaurant/bistro.
The only saving grace was the willingness of of the staff to please. Poor souls!

There is no shop on the premises where one could buy a newspaper or a souvenier.

There was no coffee making facilities in the room? Why??

Let me be fair: the breakfast buffee was very good--this is the only + which I can add !

Please do not disappoint your friends and recommend this hotel to anyone.

“Really nice, but more 4 star than 5”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2009

We spent 5 nights at this nice hotel. We liked the fantastic view over the Palma Bay, the old and worn but still nice and cosy colors in the room and public spaces (mostly light green and other pastell colors), the friendly staff (especially Lara at the reception), the big breakfast (open 'til eleven, longer than most hotels), the fantastic spa & pool-area. Only downsides were the bed (a little too hard) and the prices (everything a little too expensive). Would love to go back next year.
