“Smart hotel, much better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I booked this hotel based on other reviews on Tripadvisor. Opinions of friends who live in Mallorca varied. I stayed in mid January and the hotel was nearly empty, hence I got upgraded to a really great seaview rooom. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I didnt use the restaurant but had a few drinks at the lobby bar which had a pleasant atmosphere but was a little pricey (though no different to any other 5 star hotel in Mallorca) The hotel is located on the Paseo Maritimo in Palma - a fair walk from the centre - better take a 5 minute taxi. The front entrance is not on the Paseo Maritimo, but 1 block back - which has become not the most salubrious area over the years. I would definately recommend the hotel based on my stay.

Room Tip: My room on the seafront side had an excellent view over the Marina and back towards Palma cathedral

“Noisy location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Reception - pleasant people, lots of marble. Slightly odd coming to the hotel from the seafront, you have to buzz at a gate and then wander through various levels to reach the reception, which opens to the inland side of the hotel.

Room - got upgraded to a seafront room. At first sight a five star room - about 180 feet, comfortable if slightly dated decor. Eccentric 80s light switches. A decent sized balcony with two chairs looking out to the harbour. With pretensions to five-star-dom, no kettle in the room, and no complimentary mineral water. On second sight....

Bed - Two large singles pushed together. Not very comfy ones either. Thin mattresses.

Bathroom - smallish bathroom with a shallow US style bath and shower over.

Ambient noise - lots. The seafront road never sleeps. If you sleep with the balcony door open the noise is disturbing, and even shut it is far from silent. Sleep was therefore pretty poor.

Restaurant - had a pretty good meal in the main restaurant - some outstanding items and some well dodgy ones. Goodish wine list.

“Traditional hotel in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

The Hotel has everything you would expect of a 5 star hotel (including high prices for wifi, breakfast etc).

I would definitely recommend opting for a harbour view room - The views are excellent and you get a decent size balcony on which to enjoy them. As previous reviewers have mentioned it is also worth asking for a room on a high floor on the left hand side of the hotel in order to avoid the noise from Tito's at weekends. I was woken at 2am and the noise continued for a good 2 hours!

There is a shopping mall a 20 minute walk away and the centre of town is a short taxi ride.

The pool area is very nice and well serviced and breakfast is excellent - Definitely try and get a bed & breakfast package as it is very expensive otherwise.

Overall I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay while in Palma.

Room Tip: Opt for harbour view room away from the nightclub

Excellent hotel with attentative service, excellent rooms of good size. There Are cooler hotels in Palma, but service here at a higher level. We booked a very large room with amazing view. Hotel was better than expected. International atmosphere. Terrace restaurant is excellent choice. Breakfast was super. Well equiped gym. Stayed with children and would recommend hotel if you travel with children.

“Understated quality, touches of real luxury and faultless service.”

Visited Palma de Mallorca for the first time at the end of October and stayed at the Grand Melia Victoria. Location is good: on the number one bus route to and from airport (2 euros to airport 1.25 to town) passes between hotel and harbour: note there’s a climb from the road up to reception. You can walk to the old town, catch the airport bus or get a taxi for about 6-7 euros.

Hotel staff are attentive, polite and go out of their way to help you. It’s not often one experiences genuine service as good as this. If you can, upgrade to a harbour view, it’s worth it for the view and to have a spacious balcony and chairs to relax on (we paid 30 euros per night for this). I had to choose between this or paying 28 euros for breakfast for two, this is the reduced price based on signing up to hotel loyalty scheme, the upgrade is the better value of the two (note, around town you can get Café con leche and a croissant typically for under 3 euros). However, do check what you are signing up to and what likely charges are for your upgrade and extras.

If you decide on breakfast, continental breakfast (lots of it) can be served in the room, and this is done with some style. We took ours on the balcony each morning, a very relaxing start to the day.

Some reviewers reflect on the old fashioned décor but we saw an understated quality, touches of real luxury and faultless service.

Room Tip: You may be offered an upgrade on arrival, if not ask. Go for higher floors and to the left of the h...
