“Could do better for guests!”

Excellent spot, if you like isolated and quiet. Lacking cleanliness overall, sometimes it was hard to find a clean bowl for cereals. Rooms were clean... But not spotless! Some people were extremely helpful, some looked annoyed when asked for something. The bar was particularly annoyed with every order, and I am referring to a simple toast. Overall it was expensive, but there are no other choices in the vicinity. Breakfast was ok, with a good variety of fresh fruit. Evening dinner could be a dangerous option, the second time it was so bad that we decided never eat there again at night! Few expensive restaurants in the walking distance were quiet expensive (seafood paella for 27 euro!)

“Great views, super clean, and very relaxing”

Me and my partner booked Cala Saona with Thomson in May to avoid the peak season. They looked after us during transfers and we had a great rep in Formentera who knew the area very well. We were pleasantly surprised to be one of only a few couples staying at this hotel. Not many people spoke english, even the guests, so make sure you brush up on your spanish. However all the staff were friendly and we couldnt fault the waiting staff. The food was great, with fish everyday and a good selection of other things including chips. We had a sea view room with balcony which was superb. The room was very clean. The interior was a bit dated but functional with a fridge, flatscreen tv and hairdryer. But with the fantastic weather, we didnt spend a lot of time in there anyway. The location was spot on, the sea was amazing, and the beach bars were great although a bit on the expensive side. All in all, we had a superb holiday and will be returning in the future.

Room Tip: Go off peak before mid may

“Perfect location for a very quiet and relaxing beach holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

If you choose to stay at this hotel, you should do so in the knowledge that the location is simply this hotel, a highly recommended beach bar (closes 22:30) and 2 restaurants (both close midnight). If a quiet resort sounds good to you then read on.
The rooms are very average spanish hotel rooms, so clean and pleasant enough but not plush, there was a lcd tv that had bbc world news and sky news, a fridge with enough space for a couple of wine bottles, a double bed made of two singles pushed together and an ample size wardrobe, 2 armchairs etc. the balcony was large and as we had a sea view we were happy. The room was cleaned and towels changed every day. We slept very well as the air con as other reviewers have mentioned was very good, (so good in fact we had to turn it down !) and there is little or no noise from outside.
We spent most of our stay at the hotel pool which was never too busy (had the pool to ourselves many times) and loungers, umbrellas were free as opposed to the beach where it would have been 18 euros for the same, we swam in the clear sea a couple of times every day as it was only a 2 minute walk from pool area to the sea.
The hotel reception area was nice enough with a internet point (free) a large tv, chess, books etc and plenty of seats, the bar was reasonably priced (3 euros a beer/wine). As we had read you do share a table for meals with another room and the main issue is that the tables only have comfortable room for 2, but with 3 hour dining windows it is possible to miss each other as we did mostly. The food is varied but buffet canteen style so not piping hot but tasty enough - pasta, paella, chips, etc.
Formentera is a stunning island and with bikes to hire and a irregular bus service from the hotel you have no excuse not to see the island in depth, but if you plan on staying in this resort you will have a perfectly chilled holiday!. We will be returning to this hotel.

“Great”

We had a lovely room with a sea view. The sunsets were unbelievable. The sea was aquamarine. The food was great with fantastic garnishes ie a swan made out of a beef tomato! We were spoilt for choice with the meals with plenty of different foods to try. It was very well presented. The staff were extreemly helpful as we had problems with our travel agent who seemed to think we did not exist!! Without the help of the staff, we might still be there.

“Cala Soana”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2009

We booked for a week end July/early August through Portland Holidays on a half board basis.

We loved the location as we wanted a relaxing week by the sea. There are 2 restaurants which serve good food - the better one is the one nearest to the sea. They serve fresh fish which is superbly cooked.

On the left hand side of the bay (looking out to sea) is a beach shack which serves basic sandwiches and tortilla at cheaper prices plus they serve drinks at the bar. it is a great place - very relaxed and friendly.

The staff at the hotel were mostly okay. We had issues the first day as we needed euros and they said they couldn't change the money that day and we needed to wait until the following day, despite the brochure saying they did currency exchange. The following day they then short-changed us once at the desk which we picked them up on, and then after we had walked away and recounted we realised we were 5 euros short again - they gave us the money but me thinks they need to learn some basic maths....All we had wanted was a bottle of water on that first day and the hotel bar (which we are told is separate from the hotel) refused to put this on our room until we complained to reception and they intervened.

the evening buffet was not good. the hot food was warm and not hot and looked like it had been cooked earlier that day and then left to cool down. they had salads which were ok. the breakfasts were fine. regarding the seating arrangements previously mentioned..yes we were put on a table with another British couple yet we asked the waiter and their table number was moved to another table. nothing personal but it was a small table for 4 and we didnt want to spend every breakfast and evening meal with a couple that we didn't know.

The pool is great! It's a sea water pool and it has good shady areas - we went there in the afternoon when the beach became too hot. The beach is good as well. It is completely sandy.

The sunset views are great. A lot of people sat on the beach watching this or went swimming to do so.

overall we would go back...i dont think this can be booked B&B which personally we would have preferred but its still good.
