“Elegant and cool boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

La Casa de Los Arquillos is in a handsome 18th Century building in the heart of Vitora/Gasteiz. The rooms are elegant and airy (Room1 has two windows and probably the best views), the staff are friendly and the 5-Euro breakfast (including fresh orange juice!) is great value. The Jazz Festival was on when we visited, but the honking and tootling in the Plaza outside finished at 2245, so didn't keep us awake.

“Lacking service...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

This is a beautifully decorated B&B and the rooms were very comfortable so I can't complain there. The one big downside for us was the service. No English was spoken and although we were in Spain and we should really be speaking the local language, they are in the hospitality industry dealing with tourists. They were not helpful in trying to understand us at all.

After making the booking I tried to contact the hotel multiple times via email and phone but had no response. I wanted to find out if there were any parks near by, but unfortunately I could not get an answer from anyone. On arrival we simply found our own park as there was no communication from them.

We had booked a room for three on booking.com, but on arrival this was not available so they put a small fold up bed in the room.

Only other comment would be the common room. Although this is a great place to chat and meet other customers, be warned that you are charged for any drinks you have! This is not advertised anywhere, but they obviously keep track and charge you at the end. Very mis-leading as they were only waters and cokes etc...

I would recommend this hotel if you can speak Spanish or don't want any help/advice on the city. Otherwise, it may be best to look else where...

“Great rooms, great locations, only a bit noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2008

We stayed over a weekend and had a very nice experience. The building has been recently restored with a very modern and sharp design, it is not a "bed and breakfast", but a signature designer hotel.

The rooms are very roomy with comfortable details. It is very cozy. Bathroom is new, with great towels. Breakfast is well served.

The drawback: the walls are very thin. We heard our neighbours talk and have fun day and night.

I still recommend it, though.

  • Liked — location, design, cozyness

“The best B&B I have stayed in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2007

We stayed in Vitoria for the Fiestas de la Blanca and could not have found a better place to stay. For the price this is the nicest hotel I have stayed at in Spain.
The hotel is new and everything has been renovated with fantastic attention to detail. The hotel staff are very friendly and helped us out with everything from travel arrangements to advice on what was going on in the town.
It is probably best to mention that during the fiesta the whole town goes completely insane and the B&B is on the main square overlooking the chaos. The hotel provided ear plugs which are pretty much essential if you want to get any sleep. I imagine during the rest of the year the place is pretty quiet; however, if you want to experience the party in August there is no better place to stay.
As mentioned by the other reviewer this is more like a boutique hotel than a B&B in terms of luxury but still with a B&B feel (so don't expect room service!). For the price however I would be surprised if there is a nicer place to stay in Vitoria which is itself a much underrated (and undervisited) city. The old town is beautiful and IMHO the party better than the more famous one in Pamplona.

“amazing new B&B in the capital of the Basque country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2007

This gorgeous new B&B is more than a boutique hotel than a B&B (as they call themselves). It is located in Vitoria, which is in itself a great little town from where to travel around in the region, as San
Sebastian and Bilbao are both less than 2 hours away.

La Casa had only been opened for a month when we were there last week
and the place looks stunning, plus they have special opening rates of 70 euros per room at the mo.

It is located in the 2nd floor of a medieval building, in where it used to be a taylor's workshop; which is respected in the deco and in
the hotel's info provided. The building has been restored to its glory with solid wooden floors, exposed stone walls, etc; but with all the mod cons of today. They offer 8 rooms from what I could see in their website. Beds are huge and linen impeccable. Towels the fluffiest we have ever tried. Bathrooms are gorgeous (ours was huge with even a dresser inside!) & toiletries smell delicious.

A continental complimentary breakfast is offered: coffee/tea, yoghurt
(activia), freshly squeezed orange juice, toast & croissants. This is served in a common room where during the day you can help yourself
to a fridge stocked with cold drinks (water, beers, juice); and where
you can find books to read, cds & cd player and wifi access.

The building itself is a bit tricky to find, although very centrally located: it is located at the end of arched balcony of a huge historical building; from where steps descend to the Plaza de la virgen blanca and the main square of Vitoria. Most bars are around the corner. And though quite charming, be prepared to be waken up by the several bell towers surrounding the building!

The staff is genuinely friendly, but bear in mind it is not maned 24 hours: we had the keys to the building and there was no-one at the desk at night.

For the price this is a true gem, really well-thought place with a luxury feeling; you wont regret staying here. I highly recommend them
and can't wait to be back :)
