“Great little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2007

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in July 2007. This is a small hotel in the very heart of Vitoria and has an excellent location right at the heart of the night time buzz which centres around eating tapas (pintxos) and chatting with friends. The atmospohere is very sophisticated and not at all rowdy with a noticeably older crowd mingling on the streets and around various bars and cafes.
The hotel rooms are small but comfortable and spotlessly clean, the decor is unusual and very floral but quite quirky, they seem to be going for an art deco feel. The reception staff are friendly and helpful and had a reasonalble amount of english if needed.
The bathroom was again spotlessly clean and had a (very) small bath with shower attachment which surprisingly turned out to be just as good as a power shower!
The hotel does not have a lift, so if you have a lot of bulky bags you may have to do a number of runs to the upstairs reception desk. There is no air conditioning but this did not bother us as there are shutters on the windows which can be lowered during the day to keep the room cool.
The hotel is located on one of the main streets with good shops and great cafes and bars, it is only a five minute walk to the train station. The bus station is further away but walkable if you don't mind hilly streets with luggage to carry!
The hotel website is a good place to check this place out and is accurate. We found it to be very good value for money, (about 48 euro per room per night).
Overall this is a great little base for a stay in Vitoria which in itself has enough to keep you occupied for a weekend if you like good food, good wine and a late night cafe bar atmosphere after dark. The modern art gallery is worth a visit and has a nice cafe attached.
A word of advice to non-Spanish speakers, buy a dictionary and carry it with you as this town is not a major tourist resort and has a limited amount of english speakers, people are very friendly and helpful though!

“Funky but good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2007

We took a tour of the Rioja region in October 2006 visiting Vitorria, LaGuardia, San Sebastian, and Bilbao. Our first stop, after taking a very long route from Bilbao to San Sebastian to Vitoria, was the Hotel Dato. We arrived tired and hungry at 11 at night. After rousing the night staff, who were polite but not overly friendly, we checked in and then went out to explore Vitoria. The hotel has the best location for visitors, right on the main drag. However, I might suggest requesting a room at the back of the hotel if you're there on a weekend, as it was fairly noisy until the wee hours of the morning. It had a very funky , 70's charm to it, but the bathrooms were very clean and we thought it was excellent value for the money.

“Great time at the Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2007

We had a great time at the hotel. Definitely the best hotel iv stayed
in at that price! it was small but suited to our needs (there was two of us, brother and sister). The hotel is situated pretty much in the centre of the city, on a pedestrianized street so no loud traffic. There is an ATM across the road and an irish bar with english menus less than 5 minutes away but there is a plethora of local bars with tapas (use point and nod language as required). There is no breakfast in the hotel (that im aware of). A chinese restaurant is located around the corner from the hotel if you're not an aficionado of basque food.

Just returned from a lovely weekend in Vitoria staying in Hotel DatoTen of us stayed there and we have nothing bad to say about the hotel.its right in the centre of town close to all shops and bars/cafes.For a budget hotel it was spotlessly clean and each room beautifully decorated but best of all 46 euro for a double room in centre of town was excellent value!

  • Liked — Very cental,close to everything
