I picked this pension because I was traveling alone with my daughter and wanted to be in a safe, convivial place with her. I was not disappointed! Leire and her mom Carmen were beyond wonderful. They were extraordinary. We were in the suite which was large, had wifi connection, TV and a nice big bathroom with plenty of hot water in the shower. We had two very comfortable beds, a small desk, chairs and a big closet to put all of our things away. My only problem with the room was the noise from a bar across the street. I don't even like to complain about it but we were there 7 nights. Several of them were disturbed by loud yelling directly below us in the middle of the night. Leire offers ear plugs so if you are a light sleeper I would accept them. She also offered another room. If I were to stay here again (which I would if I returned to San Sebastian) I would ask for a room around the corner from the bar. There is no breakfast but there is a machine in the hall that dispenses hot coffee, chocolate, tea, cold drinks and some snacks. There are many places to go out for breakfast nearby. The area is safe, it is an easy walk to the bus and train stations, the sea and to all the wonderful pinxtos bars. San Sebastian is gorgeous, the food is out of this world and so beautiful to look at, and Leire makes it all easy to find. We had a number of experiences which demonstrate how incredible Leire can be. In my case I had a fall on a stone street possibly cracking ribs. It was after dinner, around 10:30 at night. I needed to get to a doctor. If I had been in a hotel I would have been worried about my daughter and probably would have taken her with me to seek medical help. At this pension there was no stress. I did not worry at all as I knew she was in safe hands. Not only that, but Leire personally walked me the 20 minutes each way to the doctor, and stayed with me to translate. What a gem! Several nights we were overwhelmed with eating so much incredible food. Leire kindly helped us order in (great sushi one night, delicious pizza another). I am a painter. Carmen paints too. Many of her lovely paintings adorn the walls of the pension. One day she invited me to her painting class to meet her instructor. What a treat. These are the kind of things that make the Pension Bellas Artes unique, special and the place to stay in San Sebastian. The accolades from all the other guests are warranted.
