We stayed in the newer part of town on the other side of La Playa Concha. It was about $90USD/night. The 20-30 min walk to Parte Vieja was pleasant and refreshing before and after lots of eating and drinking.
The hotel looks new, modern, and clean. It attracts big groups on tour buses and we saw a couple sports teams. The rooms are standard and bare. Walls are thin so you can hear your neighbors, housekeeping, and activity in the hallway. Wifi was free in the lobby only for 30 minutes at a time. None of our Euro hotels had free wifi so this was fine. This hotel was fine overall and would've just been 3 stars for me.
We didn't realize it until we were in the next city that we left an expensive shirt in the closet. So when we got back to the US we bought a calling card. First call was unsuccessful but there was no way I was letting them get away with not finding that shirt. A few minutes later I talked to Javier Fernandez who knew of the shirt and the email I'd sent asking about it, though they never responded via email. We had to send him our mailing address and credit card info to pay for shipping, $25USD. 2 weeks later, we were elated to receive the shirt in good shape. Though we had to make a few more calls overseas, we're thankful for their good customer service.
