“Great Location, Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

When booking a short city break the old adage of location, location, location holds true. The Hesperia Bilbao ticks all the right boxes. Right on the river, a 2 minute walk to the Zubizuri Bridge (White bridge in Basque) making the Guggenheim a mere 10 minutes walk from the hotel, and 15 minutes in to the Old town. Rooms (junior suite with a coloured glass balcony ) are modern, roomy and nicely fitted out, great coffee maker (essential for me) and two flat screens (one in the bedroom, one in the lounge) but with only two English speaking channels (both news channels) but hey you don’t go on a holiday to watch TV.
The beds are large, comfy, with extra bedding and pillows if required. Bathrobes and slippers are supplied, they come in very handy for sitting on the balcony while having that morning coffee.
The staff are friendly, and all spoke good or reasonable English, most certainly better than my limited Spanish, and non existent Basque. I cant vouch for the restaurant or breakfast, as we chose to eat out in the evenings. The hotel bar is functional (my polite way of saying bland) as are most modern hotel bars, its fine for a pre dinner drink or a night cap, but I wouldn’t chose to spend a evening, and there are so many lovely bars in the old town to experience.

A little hidden gem, the hotel is a couple of minutes away from Artxanda Funicular, where you get spectacular views over Bilbao.

All told a Great hotel, a Great location all for a very reasonable price. I would recommend to friends, and one who is planning a trip to Bilbao

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for the rooms with a view over the river. Remember memories stay with you for t...

“Good value hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

That's a really 4-star hotel with a lot of positive features, such as a polite, helpful reception, a smart decor and nice breakfast included in the price. The hotel is at a walking distance from both the Guggenheim museum and the old city ( Casco Viejo ). I would rate it as excellent if it wasn't for some drawbacks. We stayed in a modern, clean room, although rather small, on the 6th and 7th of January. Both days were very warm but airconditioning didn't do anything, since, as the receptionist confirmed, only warm air would come out. So we had to sleep with the window half open, as many other guests that we saw. The hotel car park is too expensive, 18€ per night. I advise you to take a look around for a free spot if you are there for a weekend. Finally, if you want a view of the river and the Guggenheim museum, you'll have to pay 20€ plus.

“Excellent location, comfortable rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

Located between the Guggenheim and the old city centre, the Hesperia Bilbao is in a perfect location for both Guggenheiming and Dining. It is situated at the river Nervión just opposite the bridge designed by Sir Norman Foster.

We booked one of the standard rooms and luckily ended up in one of the rooms with coloured windows facing the river (but without the balcony). The room itself was spacious and the bathroom was equipped with two sinks. Shower and toilet were seperated by a frosted glass door. The beds were comfy, there were additional pillows in the wardrobe. Shower was great, very heavy stream. Everything was very clean. Small drawback: The lamps above the bad table were a bit damaged. The TV has a reasonable size and some international channels.

The hotel itself is well designed, the staff helpful but not that overwhelmingly welcoming. There is a jazz bar used as the hotel bar - the jazz was awful but if you like it, drinks are quite inexpensive as they are in the minibar.

Breakfast was 14 Euros per person. This price is okay. The choice and quality of tea is great, there is fresh orange juice. The rest is in line with 4 stars. The staff is quick and opening hours are not taken too seriously (maybe important for late risers...).

All in all: Great hotel for a great price. We payed 118 Euros including breakfast. I stayed in the Miró hotel in Bilbao on an earlier stay and I would rather come back to the Hesperia, to be honest.

“Hesperia Bilbao”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Went to Bilbao for 3 days with the family Had a great time .We had a superior room with a coloured glass balcony area and the children a normal room. Both rooms were clean, modern and well appointed with the same facilities but it was worth paying a bit more for the extra space in the superior room and the view of the river.
The children (teenagers) weren't too keen on the glass doors to the bathroom as they could hear each other on the loo but did like that they had separate wash basins; mini bars are always a plus when travelling with teenagers!
I liked the hotel, the service was good and the staff friendly. I would recomend to friends and would actively choose to stay there again as the hotel was centrally located and very close to the Guggenheim . We ate in the restaurant and the food was good but chose not to have breakfast as we thought it expensive although the food in the bar was a good price for this quality of hotel.

Room Tip: Up grade to the superior room worth the extra money for the additional space around the beds
