Located between the Guggenheim and the old city centre, the Hesperia Bilbao is in a perfect location for both Guggenheiming and Dining. It is situated at the river Nervión just opposite the bridge designed by Sir Norman Foster.
We booked one of the standard rooms and luckily ended up in one of the rooms with coloured windows facing the river (but without the balcony). The room itself was spacious and the bathroom was equipped with two sinks. Shower and toilet were seperated by a frosted glass door. The beds were comfy, there were additional pillows in the wardrobe. Shower was great, very heavy stream. Everything was very clean. Small drawback: The lamps above the bad table were a bit damaged. The TV has a reasonable size and some international channels.
The hotel itself is well designed, the staff helpful but not that overwhelmingly welcoming. There is a jazz bar used as the hotel bar - the jazz was awful but if you like it, drinks are quite inexpensive as they are in the minibar.
Breakfast was 14 Euros per person. This price is okay. The choice and quality of tea is great, there is fresh orange juice. The rest is in line with 4 stars. The staff is quick and opening hours are not taken too seriously (maybe important for late risers...).
All in all: Great hotel for a great price. We payed 118 Euros including breakfast. I stayed in the Miró hotel in Bilbao on an earlier stay and I would rather come back to the Hesperia, to be honest.
