“Excellent boutique hotel out by the old harbour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

This is a stylish, sleek and yet very comfortable modern hotel in an beautifully converted old Basque style mansion out in the quiet harbour-side suburb of Getxo. If you want a more relaxing base to visit the urban goliath of Bilbao, this should be your choice. Staff are uniformly friendly and helpful, speak good English and will happily book your restaurants for you. There is a great little terrace for pre-dinner drinks overlooking the harbour, and a nice downstairs bar where you can also grab a coffee and juice if you don't fancy the full breakfast. The stroll down the harbour promenade in the evening is lovely, and there is a very nice beach at the end, perhaps 20 minutes walk away.
Ask for a room with a sea view and pay the extra 18 euros - it really is worth it.
For those taking the ferry back to England in the morning, the hotel is conveniently close and out of the horrors of driving in central Bilbao. We took the extraordinary iron transporter bridge across the river as our means of getting to the port - this is a sight in itself, but it's also fun to use it, along with the line of Spanish commuters moving around the area (but if you do choose this option, allow an extra 30 or 40 minutes, as the bridge ferry takes only 6 cars per crossing).
The metro is a pleasant 10 minute walk through residential streets, and then takes about 30 minutes into the centre of the old town. Beware if you are dining in the centre on Spanish time, as the tube system closes down at 11.00 pm, stranding various diners and post-theatre goers.

“The best place at proximity of bilbao”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011 via mobile

This hotel is most probably the best place to stay in Bilbao. Nice view, proximity of Bilbao downtown. It is t rue That it is not right in the city center but close to spots you don't visit when staying in the city. The restaurant is good and the service at the right level. I recommend it. Walk to the old Harbor and have andrink there. It is really Romantic.

“Pleasant hotel in good location”

This is a good choice if you want to visit Bilbao but want to get away from the city for some respite. Getxo is on the metro line to Bilbao and offers a quieter location to relax in. The hotel is ideally placed to offer lovely views over the enormous harbour which is constantly busy with all kinds of watercraft and sports. The promenade it fronts onto is constantly alive with people engaged in walking, cycling rollerblading and so on and makes for interesting people watching all through the day and evening.

The hotel is good but perhaps not quite as good as several I have stayed in and I would say it was considerably overpriced. Its greatest feature being its position by the water. The service is polite and efficient. Breakfast choice became monotonous at the end of a week with little choice for non meat eaters. The choice comes nowhere close to those you get in the likes of German hotels.

The decor is fresh and stylish in black, white and red and rooms and public areas are very clean and tidy. Rooms are not very spacious but alright. Wardrobe space and hangers were limited. The bathroom is fine but I've had much classier ones in many other hotels. I did not like the wash basin which put design before function and its stopper did not appear to work. The shower was over the bath which was high enough to pose a problem for people with mobility difficulties.

Lots of opportunities to walk around the area and there were shops and restaurants about 10-15 mins walk from the hotel, as was the metro station. Use the metro to get around to some of the other places along the line to discover some quaint little villages.

“Almost Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

This hotel is a gem, located right on the sea front with a beautiful outdoor terrace. Our room and bathroom was fabulous, clean, comfortable and had everything you would need. Definitely worth paying a little extra for a room sea with a sea view! The breakfast was very good too. It is a 15 minute walk to the nearest restaurants and bars, however, a beautiful stroll along the promenade, or a short taxi ride. The staff couldn't have been more helpful.

“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

July 12, 2009 We just got back from Northern Spain. Ercilla Embarcadero hotel was our favorite . We had a ocean view room on the harbor room 21 beautiful room and english speaking staff with great recommendations. We did the breakfast and were happy we did. Did not see any breakfast places near by and did not want to drive. The train is across the street so very easy to get to Bilbao in 15 minutes. Did Guggenheim and old city. There is a nice walkway all around the harbor walk to the fishing village of Purto Viejo for Tapas we dined at Karola Etxea (Basque House) restaurant was one of the best meals we had. Restaurants open at 9p. Stay here not in Bilbao center.
