“Not a 4 star, more like a dated 2 1/2. But nothing wrong with it, really.”

The hotel is average. The rooms are dated and smell a bit like cigarettes, even the non-smoking unit we stayed in. The location is good, walking distance to the Museum and the Casco Viejo neighborhood. Breakfast is good, plenty of choices. The sleep quality is not the best, there is a radiator in the bathroom that makes wicked noises inside the wall - even if it's someone else's radiator... We had to call reception twice at 1 am once, and they never came to check. The noise eventually stopped. I don't think I would stay there again, just because if you are on a holiday the place should be a pleasure to stay in, right?

“Where does that 4th star come from?”

The room was big and confortable, with a sofa and a glass table, but it was two floors beneath the reception, under the street level, so that the view from the window (very difficult to open) was quite depressing. I personally didn't like the moquette on the floor (makes the room too hot, especially at night). We had some troubles sleeping because the bathroom heater was really noisy, and we we fixed ours we started hearing the noises from the heaters of the empty rooms around us. The room was clean but my blanket had a cigarette hole in it! The girls at the reception desk were friendly and helpful. I can't complain about the service except for the fact that one night we've been awakened at 1am by a phone call from the reception that was probably meant to another room. The location is good because you're right in the center of the city (but Bilbao is not a big town and you can basically walk everywhere), but if you have a car the parking can be quite a nightmare. The hotel have a parking but is wasn't included in the price of the room and it wasn't cheap at all (18 euros per day). Same for the breakfast, not included and costed 15 euros (consider that in the old part of Bilbao you can have a three-course lunch for 10-12 euros). If you don't speak Spanish, you have to consider that the TV have no international channels. The wi-fi is free and the paintings on the walls were very nice.
In the end, it seemed to me that to be a 4 star hotel it has pretty low standards. It looked more like a 3 stars to me, even if the price of the extras (breakfast and parking) could make you think otherwise. If I ever go back to Bilbao, I think I'd sleep someplace else.

“never again”

The SPA is not of HUSA but prvate - just in the same building. Opening hours are 8:00 to 20:00 as you have to preregister was there to ask for the 8:00 time the next morning. Lady (who was not happy to speak English) said only a 10:00 !!!! Reception at hotel was not able to help. As only hotel in Bilbao with pool, I booked THIS hotel - what a disapointment!!!! The room got a window to an ugly back side. Painting is falling from cealing in the bath. Lower opening of the door is 1 cm - you have the light of the floor all night! Quite NO interesting international TV station. Mascot of Husa is quite stupid. SO not sure if i book an HUSA hotel ever again.

“Not as good as before”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

While the hotel is centrally located and affordable, it was clear that standards had dropped since our last visit there three or four years ago. Four-star? It's more a three-star now with no-frills. It gives all the appearances of a hotel that is just about kept ticking over with the bare minimum of staff in order to cut back on costs. For example, when we rang reception from our room, it went unanswered; also, there was no soap provided in the bathroom, and none was forthcoming when we asked for some. And, without going into all the details, the hotel staff don't exactly go out of their way to help you either. All in all it was disappointing compared to before, although it did have a free wifi service, which was a plus. We are unlikely to stay there again, even if it means paying more to stay somewhere else

“Clean, quiet hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2010

My husband and I traveled to Bilbao to see our daughter, who had been studying abroad in Spain. We stayed three nights at the Jardines de Albia, and were delighted with the hotel and our room. The room had two comfortable twin beds pushed together for my husband and I, and a rollaway along one wall for our daughter. There was a nice sitting area, microwave and refrigerator. The bathroom was beautiful, clean, and very roomy. Along the entry wall into the room was a large closet with sliding doors--plenty of room for our clothes. The curtains on the window were heavy enough to close off all light, which enabled us to take a midday nap after our arrival in Bilbao. The room was very quiet; not once did I hear people in the hall or in the rooms next door. Each morning the hotel provided a complimentary breakfast that included scrambled eggs, sausage, fruits, cheeses, cold cuts, and rolls and pastries. A variety of cereal was also available. The hotel was located on the river and within walking distance of the Guggenheim, with stores and restaurants nearby. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
