we found it well sited to visit all the things we wanted and booking direct was far cheaper than using any booking agents.If we ever come back, this was our first trip, we would use it again

From Bilbao airport we caught the bus into town. Advice: splash out £23 on taxi!. Hotel room was spacious, clean and quiet and the air con appreciated. Reasonable length walks to Guggenheim etc etc. But be warned a half pint of Guinness and a gin and tonic (beautifully served) cost 9.50 euros. We have travelled fairly well in Europe over the years but never met such helpful people as on this ho.

Ordinarily I wouldn’t have booked at a hotel which had received so many negative reviews in a row. However, I was in Bilbao for a meeting and all of the other participants had chosen to stay at the Husa Jardines de Albia based on the recommendation of the organizers. It was with trepidation that I made my booking, but overall it was a good experience.

I found every single member of the staff at the front desk to speak excellent English and to be very courteous and helpful. I was very pleased with the service that I received from the staff.

I requested and was given a non-smoking room. I was in two rooms and neither room smelled of smoke as other reviewers have found.

My first room was on the seventh floor, but I requested to change this after hearing the low frequency noise from the equipment on the roof. Others from my group also commented on the noise from the service equipment. The staff at the desk was able to give me another room on the 3rd floor without any question which was excellent.

The room was nice but a bit Spartan and not four star level. The room lacked a kettle for making coffee, a peephole for looking to see who was at the door, a dead bolt and hand towels. Despite the missing amenities, the room was certainly an acceptable 3 star.

However, I felt the hotel was let down by two things. The first problem was the cleaning staff after my first night. When I arrived in my room, there was a used towel on the sink and the bath towel had a large stain on it. The floor needed to be vacuumed. The next day, the cleaning staff decided that we only needed one towel and took the other away. Why would you have a room to two people and then force them to share a towel?

The other problem is the potential noise. I have already mentioned the noise on the 7th floor. On the third floor, the rooms are separated from the elevators and the lobby by a single door that does not shut automatically. Therefore, all of the guests with rooms located on the lobby end of the hall are dependent on other guests shutting the door to reduce the noise transmitted from the lobby. However, other guests can also slam the door which also causes problems.

The hotel is very well located and it was only an easy 15 minute walk to the bus stop for the airport bus. The restaurant on the ground floor was excellent.

Overall, a good choice in Bilbao. If the cleaning staff were more attentive and the noise issues were addressed, the Husa Jardines de Albia would be a very nice hotel.

The hotel is in a great location, an easy stroll to the Guggenheim and a 30 minute walk to the Old Town. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful and most were English speaking! The hotel has an excellent restaurant although the bar could do with longer opening hours at weekends (it shuts mid-afternoon on Saturdays and Sundays). One minor gripe was that the (very good value) minibar wasn't restocked. All in all an excellent place to stay for a short trip to Bilbao.
