“A great little hotel if visiting Bilbao by car.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

A few miles outside the city and on a hill with great views of Bilbao by night we were really pleased with this find. It's a well-maintained, clean, family run, small hotel, in a quiet location, and with helpful, English speaking staff. Five minutes easy drive from the hotel is the local fenicular terminal where we parked the car free and took the 3 minute fenicular ride to the centre of Bilbao. Whilst the hotel does a good, wide choice breakfast, it has no restaurant, but they're happy for you to picnic in their conservatory or order in a takeaway. If not eating in Bilbao, local choices are to eat in the restaurant next door to the hotel (run by different management, expensive and not that good) or in one of the cafes/restaurants around the fenicular terminal. great hotel for a comfortable, quiet night's sleep and no worries about car parking or security.

“Excellent Views, Spanish Service!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

Well located hotel above the city with excellent views and large car park, essential for 8 of us travelling in classic cars. Quiet location though hotel was of cheap concrete construction so you could hear everything, particularly a noisy guest who kept sniffing loudly & hawking. Nice!. We were disappointed when we arrived after a long drive to be told the restaurant was closed on Saturday nights - hadn't occured to me to ask - but in the end, it turned out well as we found a stunning restaurant 5 minutes up the road.

Room OK, small twin with radio only, wi-fi none of us could access, adequate shower room, window opening mechanism & outside roller blind broken, no bar but beer available at reception, no soap in shower soap dispenser - annoying when already wet!

Having particularly offered to settle our bills the evening before as we were making an early start, we were assured someone would be on duty by 0700. Still no one when we wanted to leave at 0730 so after making much noise trying to attract attention, we left. I'd paid the deposit on my credit card so the hotel charged all 4 rooms to me. Having no option, I said they could, but I was pretty annoyed as I've now got to sort out all repayments to me. Could have saved a lot of hassle if the staff had done as they said.

“Pleasant hotel but.......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

Clean & tidy hotel, friendly staff. However we stayed in annex next to car park and restaurant the rooms were fairly small and the double bed not big enough! ( Soundproofing not good either ) Also it was festival week which meant brilliant firework displays but also live music from the restaurant meant no sleep until 1.30am! Check where your room is before accepting it.
Ok for 1 night perhaps. Breakfast a bit hit and miss - they tend to run out of things ( like croissants!)

“Great Place but need a Sat Nav”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

Stayed over the end of June to catch the ferry the following day, I was aware that the place was difficult to find so found it OK but with the use of a Satnav. The hotel itself overlooks the city with great views. the accommadation is good and clean and the breakfast is ample. There is also free wifi.
Next door is the restaurant Artetxe not part of the hotel. This restaurant is worth a visit altough quite expensive the food is first class. Warning if travelling to the ferry the morning after and not prepared. You are on the opposite side of the river and my satnav route too me through the small side streets to the rivers edge where i could see the ferry across the river. The satnav kept telling me to get on the ferry but after some head scratching i realised the ferry it was talking about is actually a small swing bridge that you drive on and it swings the bridge over the river where you drive off and on towards the ferry port. If you werent aware of this and short of time it could be quite stressfull

“A little gem . . once you've found it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2010

Up on the valley side with sweeping view over the city. Family-run and English-speaking. Recently refurbished in a modern but individual way. Plenty of parking. Excellent restaurant attached with large outdoor area covered with vines.
