The very snippy receptionist denied we had a booking until I showed him proof, sighed mightily and deigned to give us a room. This was gloomy, tired and in dire need of a major refit. . It looked out onto a blank wall some 20 feet away. I said I was very unhappy with the room quality and asked for another room only to be told the hotel was full (there was a wedding on) so I asked if we could move to another room the following day (we were booked in for two nights) and was willing to pay for an upgrade but he refused, said he couldn't possibly reserve one for us and we would have to enquire again about availability the next morning! Presumably when he wouldn't be on duty. He was so unpleasant and I was so incensed by his attitude I filled in the guest survey form specifically to complain about him. The restaurant AND bar were closed to the public because of the wedding. The fitness centre is closed at weekends. Just gets better, doesn't it? Don't bother with the garage, it's 20 euros a night -- the on-street metered parking is far cheaper and free at weekends anyway. On the plus side, we weren't bothered by noise too much despite the very big wedding. Our room rate included breakfast so I couldn't say whether it is expensive or not but it was very good. The restaurant was also closed for the second night of our stay , a Sunday. Shame, the menu looked very tempting, However there are lots of good places to eat in Bilbao. (But the restaurant/tapas bar just a few steps along from the hotel is very expensive. ) I wouldn't stay here again -- the room was so depressing, more like a one-star hotel than a three and the hotel is not that centrally placed. It's about a 20 minute walk from the main shops etc and seems to be in the business district. And they need to sort out their front desk staff!
