Luxurious it isn't, but the Tryp Arenal is welcoming, clean, comfortable, and above all *convenient* (and after all, what more do you need on a short sight-seeing break?) The staff were friendly and fun to talk to, and their English was better than my Spanish. The location could hardly have been better: two minutes' round the corner and you're in the Plaza Nueva and the heart of the Casco Viejo; 2 minutes in the other direction if you want the metro station; a 10 minute stroll along the riverside promenade, over the Zubizuri Bridge, and you arrive at the Guggenheim... just about everywhere we wanted to go was within easy walking distance. Our 5th floor room had a tiny balcony looking out over the Plaza Arenal, and the nights were completely undisturbed by noise (mind you, it was January!) We only used the hotel's restaurant/bar once, for a late cup of tea, but there were so many cafes, bars and eateries in the near vicinity that we were spoilt for choice. Would I stay there again? Yes, like a shot! Highly recommended.
