The location and the helpfulness of the staff make this the only place we'd stay in Bilbao (an underrated city that deserves a couple nights). The room was a bit small and oddly decorated but well equipped. Restaurant upstairs has closed, but the bistro off the lobby proved delightful. Both of the main museums and the Art Deco business district are an easy walk from the hotel, and the charming old section is a gentle stroll. Desk staff were friendly and justly proud of what their city has to offer. Highly recommended!

Opposite a building refurbishment scheme be prepared to be woken early by a hammer drill or disc cutter. Rooms are small badly decorated with black ceilings and overpowering wallpaper.Breakfast is poor and the cooked option from the kitchen is unacceptable,The restaurant is closed and the bar cafe has taken over this roll but does not open until 20.00 hrs in the evening if you need to eat before going to the airport -tough.All in all the Basques in our opinion do not do tourism or service, few people speak English, even in a five star hotel!Far better booking with a big chain name overall.The Guggenheim is an architectural masterpiece,a far better experience than the exhibits but overall not worth visiting Bilbao to see.

The welcome is good with Concierge Service, Valet Parking and a smiling, multilingual, reception. Rooms clean and spacious with superb bathroom - but expensive wi-fi, we did without, going to a nearby tapas restaurant that had free wi-fi. Centrally located it is good value, but difficult to find within the one way system - thank you for GPS which took us straight there. Is not a 5 star hotel more 3+ or 4 at the most. Apart from the wi-fi, the restaurant does not open for dinner until late. Business people and weary travellers look for a more open restaurant outside of hours - bar snacks are not adequate especially with early nights, early check-outs and/or late arrivals. Overall, we would recommend this hotel and will stay in the future for a comfortable sleep, excellent presentation and superb welcome.

There are two Hotel Ercillas in Bilbao both belong to the same chain but If you ask directions for Hotel Ercilla everyone will point you towards the modern one which sits in the opposite direction from the other older one. You have to ask for "Hotel Lopez de Harold" instead. It's a far cry from it's modern sister. The location is okay - a bit hidden and hard to find. The rooms could use some improvements but overall not bad - largest safe in a room, free minibar drinks and snacks, and a very helpful staff make this hotel. There are several grocery and fruit stores nearby if you don't want to pay the 12€ breakfast. There is also a nice gym (there's not much to do in Bilbao besides the Guggenheim) down the street. Next time I will stay in San Sebastian and take a day trip to Bilbao. Hotel charges an outrageous 15€ a day for wifi and has a free computer with Internet access in the lobby.
