The front of the HUSA Santo Domingo faced a busy highway with no sidewalk and the back a bleak modern apartment complex. Although the walk was not long to the center of town it was kind of lonely. The room we had was modern, roomy and comfortable although if our stay would have been longer than 3 days we would have found it a bit dark. The breakfast was over-priced at 13.50 euros. We walked to the cafeteria of the old market and had a plate ful of excellent fresh churros and thick, creamy hot chocolate for 4 euros.

We got the bus from the airport which was excellent value at just over 6 euros per person. However, on weekends and holidays the buses don't leave every hour and we had to wait for an hour and 45 mins to catch the bus.

As per other reviews, the hotel wouldn't be easy to find on foot so I would recommend getting a taxi from the bus station. It was only a 5-10 minute journey and cost 6-7 euros.

The hotel is located just off a roundabout on a busy 3 lane highway and if you're unlucky enough to get a room at the front of the hotel (as we were) you WILL be distrubed by the road noise. However, it didn't stop us from sleeping, it was just annoying while we were sat in the room.

The hotel itself is modern and well decorated and the rooms are clean and a decent size (for european hotels) but there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room which was surprising for a four star hotel. The hotel restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays and on other days it doesn't open until 8:30pm. We ordered room service on one night (available from 8pm) and the food was very nice. The buffet breakfast was very well stocked and had a wide selection.

The hotel is in a good location for access to the city centre but the 10-15 minute walk involves a steep hill so if you have limited mobility (elderly, wheelchair, push-chair etc) you might want to consider a hotel closer to the centre. However, Asturia is generally quite hilly so you should be prepared for a bit of exercise. Ask at reception for a map and they will show you the best (and quickest) route to get to the centre.

Overall, a nice hotel for the price but a shame about it's position next to a busy road.

My family took three rooms here and we all loved this four-star hotel. Great location, stylish interior, and superb service. It is on the edge of the Old Town and easy to access from the highway. A winner!
