My wife and I recently stayed in the Tryp Oviedo, which is a very good and modern hotel. Our room was on the 6th floor and it was big and faced the main boulevard. The closet was big and spacious.

When we arrived, the desk clerk was a beautiful young lady who was very friendly and professional. We arrived before noon because we had an early morning flight to Asturias, and the desk clerk arranged for a room for us right away. We had to wait only 10 minutes for the room.

The breakfast buffet was very good and had almost everything you would want to eat for breakfast. There were scrambled eggs that had bits of ham in it, which was delicious. There were also very good pastries, such as the apple pastry. We had very good experiences at breakfast.

All the people who worked at the hotel were friendly.

The location is very good because it is a 15 minute walk to the Cathedral. Beside the hotel is the main bus terminal, so it is very convenient if you want to take day trips to Gijon and Aviles.

Our experience in the hotel was very pleasant and I would return to stay here in the future.

For those who plan to stay in the hotel, it is advisable to first get the MAS Card, which you can find on the net searching for the Melia chain of hotels. If you have this card, you can get the breakfast free for your companion and you will get the daily newspaper delivered to your door.

Well, the hotel itself was a good experience: located not far away from the city center (15 minutes walking), with all its attractions, this hotel is a modern building, clean, with spacious and modern rooms.

It has a big private parking just under it, allowing your car to be safely left during the night.

The receptionist was professional, a little too cold, far from the warm welcome I usually met in my Spanish holidays. Fortunately I did not have to ask them anything (everything was perfect, from the room to the breakfast) and, arriving from a not nice hotel in Lourdes, I really enjoyed my stay there.

Price was very interesting, compared to the hotel class. Maybe it is more for business travelers then tourists, but if you are looking for a modern hotel, clean, easy to be reached by car, without spending a lot of money, this is the hotel for you.

My wife and I visited Oviedo in late May 2007 and stayed at the Tryp. The good points were that the room was reasonably clean and the hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk to the centre. However, the night was hot and humid yet the hotel blandly informed us when we complained that the aircon had not been turned on in the hotel (though the heating had been turned off!) so we had an insufferably hot, sticky and sleepless night in consequence. Our room faced the main railway line, so opening the window wasn't an option. The duty manageress clearly couldn't care less that we were unhappy with the situation and flatly stated that the hotel had air conditioning - as per the brochure - even though she admitted it was off! Nothing had been said at check-in, of course.

Overall, it was an unpleasant experience, particularly at the (high) price. On our return to Oviedo later in the week, we stayed at the infinitely nicer Reconquista.

We arrived in Oviedo in the rush hour and did the usual circles while looking for parking/hotel. The TRYP shone like a beacon and although we guessed from its appearance that it must be expensive we were too tired to travel on. What a surprise! The price was so low we had to enquire was it per person. But it was per room. Car was whisked into the integral garage. Room was huge and, although on the busy corner opposite the station, the double glazing kept out noises. Staff were wonderful. Gave us maps and directions to enable us to eat in one of the typical small restaurants near the cathedral. Breakfast was great. Altogether a great find, and one that has ensured that we try TRYP first in every Spanish city we visit.
