“Staff share in-cider knowledge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Perfectly located and almost hidden in an affluent hillside residential area of Asturias' capital, the Ayre Hotel Alfonso II combines peace and quiet with accessibility. It's very easy to walk from the nearby bus or train station yet you don't have to stay in typical near-station accomodation. Once you've worked out that you need to take one of the outdoors escalators to Oviedo's upper level finding the hotel is very straightforward.
Service is excellent with the chamber maid actually coming back to tidy our room at 8pm while we were at dinner so we could sleep in all morning! Special mention must also be made of the delightful Fernando whose tourist advice monologues are both endearing and informative. He is particularly keen to share his recommendations for the best places to get tipsy on traditional Asturian cider.
Rooms are big and bright and when the sun shines through the curtains the patterns of the cast iron balconies play on the floor. The style is quasi-regency with lots of faux mahogany and burgundy tones. Beware of the shower though - there is the potential for a scorching or a soaking!

“Good hotel, well appointed rooms, very friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011 via mobile

This hotel is a short walk from the station and about 15 minutes from the old town area. An advantage when you consider how noisy the clock chimes are! The room we had was really nice. The staff here made the experience though, really friendly and keen to share local knowledge. We also ordered room service which was very tasty, although I should mention that it's unavailable on a Saturday.

“Good location, quiet neighborhood, good price-value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

We stayed in the hotel 2 nighs in July 2011 coming to visit Oviedo for a longer weekend. The hotel is located very close to the center (10 min walk) but still far from the main streets and the noise. Very nice neighborhood. Comfortable rooms and good service. The parking is very small but manageable. The full breakfast is relatively expensive but the continental one (almost 2x cheaper) is just fine. Michal y Ale

Excellent hotel in a nice residential area yet only five minutes walk to modern part of town and 15 minutes walk to Cathedral and old town. Fantastic large room with enormous bathroom. Very clean, friendly and helpful staff.

“Cannot go wrong here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

Stayed here Aug 2010 in room 107. This comfortable room most usefully overlooks the back of the building and does not pick up the sound of the noisy traffic at the front. There were no sounds from the neighbours. There really is a need to ask for a quiet room. This hotel has otherwise little to fault apart from the terrace which also faces on to the road. As the hotel is perhaps 20 minutes away from the centre in a very good residential area we had dinner there on both nights and the food was very nicely cooked. Menu was standard fayre. Dinner also was by Spanish standards not late. The hotel is about 15 minutes from the main coach station if you get your directions right. Just by the main rail station (Uria) on either side there are long escalators up to a large square and you then go to the left hand side of that square and follow a good google map up a hill to the hotel. The staff were very courteous and affable, only one spoke no English, and service was good. The whole hotel was spotless.

The centre of this ancient university city is welcoming – a good place to be. The old town is very nice and there are some restaurants close to the old market square. The Museo de Belle Arts close by the cathedral is well worth a visit.

If you fly, then there is a frequent efficient and cheap bus service to Oviedo bus station.

I would have no hesitation in staying here again
