I found the Silken Campus a very good, modern 3* hotel. The property looks rather monstrous from outside but once inside it is a different story altogether. My room was quite a decent size, bright and tastefully decorated, with furniture in perfect condition, air con and satellite TV with plenty of local and international channels to chose from. The bathroom was not too big but very well appointed, with a full-length bathtub, hairdryer and heated towel racks. The room also came with a small, fully fitted kitchen, I guess the reason why the property is classed as an aparthotel. Buffet breakfast, served on the ground floor, was somewhat limited but delicious. Service was correct at all times.
The hotel is located right by a busy crossroads with direct access to the motorway to the coast. The cathedral and the old part of town are a pretty straightforward 15 to 20 minute walk, uphill though! The hotel has a private car park but I managed to find free on-street parking space behind the university buildings, a couple of blocks away from the hotel. You may want to try your luck too, otherwise it is €11 plus VAT per day to use the hotel’s own car park. Both train and bus stations are also a short walk uphill.
All in all, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Silken Campus and would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice and yet reasonably priced place to stay in Oviedo.
