The Zenit Don Yo is in the newer part of Zaragoza, about a 25 minute walk from the Plaza del Pilar and cathedral.
The service at reception was initially curt and unhelpful -- 'what to do with the car?'; 'leave it there'; 'parked illegally'; 'it's O.K.' With just one English speaking, control freak concierge everything backed up until she was ready to deal with it. Later in the evening when there was less pressure she was more helpful and friendly.
This was one of the worst hotels on our trip in terms of physical environment of our room. Room is quite tight, but laid out efficiently. Bathroom is up one step – a toe-stubber for sure. Toilet was erratic in flushing and required assistance from reception staff on 2 occasions. Air conditioner does the job in cooling – but it is noisy; filter is filthy, and it works only when you are in the room with the key card in the slot.
Room 105 faces an air shaft and an adjacent rooftop would make illegal access to room relatively easy. Only 1 of 2 windows has a working lock. The combination of this lax security and the noisy a/c going on and off, made for restless nights.
Like so many hotels, everything is extra: safe deposit box in room at 2eu per day; parking at 12eu per day; wifi at 10.84eu for 24hours (but was the best internet service ever).
Breakfast at 9.80eu per person is bountiful, presided over by a motherly waitress who is cheerful, speaks no English but makes the effort to develop an understanding – smoking vs. non-smoking areas; mint vs. regular tea; hot vs. cold water; but no soy/soja milk.
