“Comfort in Zaragoza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

If you look at the hotel from the outside and even in the lobby, it isn't nothing special, but once you walk in the corridors or see the room your expectations are overcome. I stayed for 3 nights in one of the suites and liked very much the comfort and warm feeling. The room was huge, had 1 desk, 3 telephones and sofas. The bathroom is also very big, with bathtub and showercabin, as well as a small compartiment for the toilet. No free wi-fi in the room, only in the lobby. There was also a free safe box available.
Breakfast is very good in quality and variety, with many traditional Spanish products. Staff is attentive and nice. I also had dinner at their restaurant and the food is quite good, although expensive.
Melia Zaragoza as a very good central location, near Gran Via and Plaza del Pilar, which is very convenient to explore the are on foot. It is far from train station and congress centre (they are not central).
I only have 2 things to complain about: 1 - I asked for an wake up call in one of the nights and, as the hour would change for the Winter time, I previously prevented the clerk about this. He said not to worry, that they would wake me up exactly when I asked to. Result: I was woken 1 hour earlier!! 2 - I send them an email asking about the possibility of change the name in the invoice (for refuding purposes) and they never answered.

“Good, but could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The hotel is good, with a classic decoration and a little old fashioned. The air conditioning for example is old, the rooms still have cassette tapes deck... But the architecture is interesting, very classic. Staff is not the best, but it´s ok. Some things really are missing, I was there in the 1st january and the restaurant of the hotel was closed. The doors of the bathroom have the superior part with glass, which means that if you don´t travel with your wife/husband it can be embarrassing. The location is very good. Parking is charged (about 16 euro per day).

Room Tip: Take the highest floor you can.

“Not what you would expect of a modern, city hotel.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

Disappointing. Dated decor, indiferent service, no in-room coffee/tea facilities, no in-room wi-fi, expensive breakfast. The majority of the staff appear to have no second language and this also applies to the reception staff which is most unusual. On the plus side, it has a good, central location. Maybe with the economic downturn, savings are being made but cutting guest facilities to the minimum is maybe not a good direction.

Room Tip: Ask for a "Do Not Disturb/ Clen My Room Now" card. They seem to be in short supply and the...

“Angenehme Unterkunft”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Being on a business trip, I had too little time to use and evaluate the Hotel's amenities. But it fully met my basic requirements: a comfortable bet (a bit too soft to my liking, however); a quiet room (after changing, which was no problem) and a good breakfast. In accordance with the hotel's status you can order egg dishes to taste which are freshly prepared. Excellent located at the border of the inner city and few taxi-minutes (you can also take the bus) to the central station.

“Not bad, but of the standard expected for a 5 star.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

As with some other reviews, I would have to agree that the decor is ageing and that the 5 star status given to this hotel would seem to be from a long time ago.

We enjoyed the king size bed but it was very creaky. We were given a room on the 3rd floor facing the main street. The noise was bearable but you could still clearly make out when buses/bikes were passing.

To 'knit-pick' somewhat, I found the sealant around the bath was moulding which detracts from the grandeur of a 5 star hotel. The shower was a trickle of lukewarm water. The various vents for air in and around the room didn't seem to be fitted correctly leaving gaps. The air conditioning control didn't seem to have any effect. The television only had 1 english speaking channel which for a hotel of 5 star status seems lacking. The carpet was also covered in various stains.

Despite this, we had an enjoyable 3 night stay and the staff seemed friendly, as we were continually busy on our quick trip over for a friends wedding.
