“Excellent apartment in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

The Pension has a lot of small rooms and 2 apartments. This review applies only to the apartment on the top floor. We rented it for 4 nights and it was great at any price and remarkable for 60 euros. The bedroom has 2 comfortable twin beds. There is a nice dining room with a sofa, chairs, and a flat-screen TV. There is a fully equipped kitchen that includes a washing machine, pots and pans, dishes, microwave, stove, and an ironing board. The bathroom has a shower in a tiny tub, a hair drier, etc. There appears to be an air conditioner but we did not use it. The windows out to the pedestrian walkway have big roll-down shades that keep out light and help keep out what little noise there is out there. There is access to a terrace on the roof that has clotheslines, clothespins, and a table and chairs.

The location is about perfect--in the tourist district with easy walking distance to the cathedral, the Alcazar, and the river. There are many restaurants in the area and you can buy food nearby. But watch out for the bakery that is across the street to the right as you emerge from the pedestrian walkway--he held back 5 euros from my change and it was clear from his expression when I caught it that it was not an innocent mistake! I continued to buy there but counted my change.

The owner speaks little English but is very helpful and has people he can call on when language is a problem. He saved me a lot of money on cab fare by telling me how to take the airport bus (Especial Aeropuerto) from the airport to the nearby Jardines del Prado.

“reserve apartamentos, not rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

It happened that all the rooms were reserved and we were suggested to reserve an apartamento A. It cost a little bit more (35euro per person), but it was totally worth it.
Great one bedroom apartment with bathroom, kitchen and marble floors! It was a relief to walk on the cold floor after going sightseeing for the whole day! :-)
Our daughter was sleeping on the sofa in the living room. It was comfortable and big enough.
On the pension website hostalsanbenito.com you can see the pictures of the appartments. I can't say anything about the rooms in this pension, but the apartamento A is wonderful and I would strongly recommend it!
It is located on the edge of the old town and new town, and all sights of interests are 5-10 minutes walk from there. There's a small market store right across the street. As there's a kitchen in the aparment, you can buy some food and cook to save a little.
It was really quiet there at night.
The owner doesn't speak English, but his younger daughter does a little. When she's around she can help to translate.

“Loads of character and a lot of rules”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2010

We stayed three nights in this hostal in April 2010. A double with bathroom was 60 euro for the first night (the price was higher because it was the the last night of the April fair) and 40 euros for each additional night. We were also charged an additional 2 euros a day for paying with a credit card.

The location was fabulous: in the Santa Cruz neighborhood with restaurants just outside the hotel. It was a 10 minute or so walk to the cathedral. We also found a grocery store within a short walk.

The hostal was clean and full of pretty plants, two small dogs and a canary. There is no view from the room, but it was comfortable and a nice size for the price. The shower was hot with good water pressure. All sorts of rules were posted about, such as all showers must be taken between 8:30 am and 11:00 pm (a bit inconvenient) and no washing of clothes in the sink (okay, so we may have broken this rule). And everywhere there are signs saying "Silence" and "Close the doors without sound!"

I'd recommend this place for anyone looking for a cheap and comfortable room with lots of personality in an excellent location. Not recommend for partiers or night owls.

“great location & price with some limitations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2010

Great location at edge of Juderea 10 minute walk to cathedral and good price. Hard to find--do a google map search before you go and look for sign on street. Simple rooms around pleasant interior courtyard and very quiet. Wifi but no tv in room. Operating family lives on second floor. No windows but our room had ample air supply from air shaft. French door; on return found top quarter left open by maid for ventilation. Clean. Worn out towels. Owners pleasant; speak little English. Several posted rules including no visitors and no laundering of clothes. Undisclosed charge of 2 euros a day to use Visa card. Not for everyone but we would stay there again.

“King Kong alone was worth the 45 bucks!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

We were in Seville this September, and Seville was probably my favorite of all the places we visited in Spain.
We arrived in Seville in the evening from Toledo, and after a terrible sleepless night at a hostal that our lonely planet guide recommended, the next morning we checked out and I walked around to find another place to get some sleep.
(The place we had a terrible experience in by the way, was Dulce Suenos, the room was clean but miserably tiny, and no window to the outdoors, plus walls were so thin that we didn't sleep a wink. They charged us 70 USD for the night.)

After walking down an alleyway that leads to pension san abad, I found a terrific little place. The owner was very nice and accomodating, reminds me of a family uncle, and when he said the room was just 45 USD and it was twice as large as our last we said ok! He was great with making suggestions too.

The room was much better than our last and you can' t beat the location. We slept great, and I forget the owner's name but his little tiny toy yorky terrier named King Kong was our guard. :) With the money we saved staying here we were able to drink it in claras! Tip: towels are very thin, so if you travel light like we do ask for extra so you can dry yourself after a shower. Also, his rooms don't have airconditioning but we were fine with the high powered fan.

BTW, I checked out a place just across the st from the pensione that was a beautiful elegant hotel for a reasonable $80USD a night. We would've stayed there as a treat but the only room they had open faced the street, plus I sat on the bed and it felt thin and springy..
