The Hotel Santa Catalina was not our first choice (lot of inquiries had no
vacancy for the week after the feria), and it proved we have been right.
The only one of the hotels we have booked online who charged our credit
card right upon reservation, and they sure do know why. Would we not have already been charged for the room, we would not have stayed one night there. The all present dust surely comes from the current construction sites outdoor - the street and the Santa Catalina church next door - but the hotel itself is very basic with small rooms and even smaller bathrooms with not even a curtain for the shower, means you have to clean the whole deluge after each use of the shower. We had some sort of a very small balcony to the street, which perhaps is as nice as they make believe you on their website - just we did not see it for the construction work. But it was very very noisy with some kind of a bar/kiosk just below our window. And then the window was double barred with security locks etc. like in a prison - and like in a prison was also the furniture. The hotel looks nice and friendly on their website, but reality is something else and the staff with exception of the night concierge was not friendly and helpful at all. They do not offer breakfast at all and you have to park your car in a horrible but expensive public underground parking in the same quarter. The only advantage of this place is it's proximity to the bar El Rinconillo, the oldest tapas bar in town (from 1670) and the most atmospheric one. Even with the construction site all around, the bar was crowded with locals and tourists alike.
