“Hostel Lis II Sucks”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2007

ust a note to those who are planning a trip to Sevilla. In the Lonely Planet guide Hostel Lis II is recommended. It should'nt be! It is over priced (60 Euro for a double room which is in very bad condition), lumpy beds, no heating in the middle of winter (it snowed an hour north of Sevilla when I went), no extra blankets to give out, and probably the worst thing - no hot water in the shower. And the staff are unfriendly and decieving. When we complained about our room having no hot water, they acted all surprised and shocked and "this is very strange", but about 30 minutes earlier we had heard another pair complain to them about the same problem in their room. We spent two very uncomfortable nights there and just thought it was worth a mention for others to avoid it if possible. And it wasnt just us, because a few weeks later my friend started complaining about a hostel she had stayed in in Sevilla - and it was the same one! She overheard the owners talking about how much they were going to charge a different couple than them, and it was nearly double what she paid!

If you're just into a place to flop, HOSTAL LIS II is as good as any low budget hotel, but if you care about ambiance, sunlight and pleasant interiors, then give it a miss. Very stuffy, dark rooms (I was in a single on the third floor). Can't recommend it but I'm sure if you're a youngish, earnest backpacker, it will do the trick. I did chance upon the lovely 2 star HOTEL LONDRES in the same area but it was fully booked unfortunately or I would have switched over.

Location wise, it's fine - in Centro around the area of the two main shopping streets (Tetuan and Sierpes) and easy to find. Sevilla is such a walkable city that you can get anywhere in good time, including the much touted (and rightfully so) Barrio de Santa Cruz.

I also stayed at the HOSTERÍA DE DOÑA LINA at the beginning of my trip and can recommend this establishment located on a quiet square in Santa Cruz between the Jardines de Murillo and Real Alcazares. Single room with spotless bath. Bear in mind that many of the hotels in this quarter are accessible by foot only so be prepared to haul your noisy wheeled luggage (for those of you chipper enough to lug around a backpack, a smattering of applause) around the delightful cobblestoned lanes.

Seville is an enchanting city.

“Be afraid, or just confused: your mileage may vary (a lot!)”

I actually wound up staying in 2 different rooms during the course of my stay, and the difference was truly amazing.
The first room was an utter horror. If I hadn't been arriving at midnight, I would have turned around and left immediately. The single room on the first floor (not ground floor) was like a welfare hotel, and the shared bathroom & shower was completely disgusting. I was completely revolted.
The next day, due to a mixup, they had booked me into a single room on the third floor for the rest of my stay and it was clean, airy, roomy, and sunny, with a clean, large, shared bathroom down the hall. How can one hotel have 2 such entirely different experiences??
Since the second room was actually quite decent, I stayed, but I won't go back if I ever return to Seville. I agree with what someone else said about the location being quiet, but confusing to find.

Lived at this hostal for one night ....very horrible experience...
I should have read the previous review in detail before...it is very very true.....

and the shower did not have a curtain and so water got everywhere and we had to clean it up. It was a pain.

I can't imagine how people can stand this hostal to stay for over one night...once you get into the horrible scene after you take your bath, the first thing u wanna do is to look for another hostal/hotel the other morning...

The double room I lived has water leaking out after each flushing as well >,<

All in all, DON'T stay in this hostal unless you want to experience the terrible scene..... Is 35 Euro every night really a budget? I dunno if other hostal is that terrible for similar rate ... Moreover, if u use credit card to pay, the hostal will charge 3% more......

“Cheap and for good reason”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2004

This was a very cheap hostal. We had a room on the ground floor, which was far less than ideal. We did not want to open our shade because we didn't want people to look in, so the room stayed dark. A room with big windows and a balcony would have been great. I loved the Spanish tile all over the walls. The room was a double, but also had a twin bed in it too, which made the room crowded. The bathroom was incredibly tiny (it took a lot of ingenuity to fit everything in just right) and the shower did not have a curtain and so water got everywhere and we had to clean it up. It was a pain. The location was very quiet, in a tiny pedestrian only alley. It is a ways away from the sights, located in the shopping district. We kept getting lost trying to find the cathedral area. It was good exercise though. So overall, less than ideal. If you are on an extremely tight budget I would stay here, however, if not you should pay a little bit more and stay somewhere more central.
