“Very reasonably priced for the service you get.”

For anyone wishing to stay in the delightful Santa Cruz area of the city, this hotel is conveniently placed, and ticked all our boxes. We stayed in January because the temperature is pleasant and the old town is not too crowded. Our room was large, with a patio, and had all the usual facilities. Breakfast which was included in our holiday, was buffet style, and the choice was large and varied enough, hot and cold, to cope with most peoples' tastes (including lots of freshly-squeezed orange juice !). The staff were always friendly and helpful, and spoke at least three languages, and nothing was too much trouble. Well stocked bar, good tapas and a restaurant on site (best garlic soup ever!) makes this a hotel we'd recommend heartily, and will use again.

Room Tip: Our room #106 had an outdoor patio.

“very helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We stayed in this friendly hotel for just one night prior to taking a train to Granada. We were comfortable and slept well.A decent breakfast was included in the reasonable price.
The staff at the hotel made a huge effort to help us get to the station for our train when there was an enormous Epiphany procession causing a big traffic problem just at the time of our attempts to get there.Between Hosteria del Laurel staff and a brilliant taxi driver we made it to the train with five seconds to spare.

“Well-located and good value, but not the quietest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We had an enjoyable two-night stay here - the location is ideal for all the old-town sights, but we found our sleep disturbed in various ways - from the Plaza outside, the restaurant downstairs (furniture being moved around early in the morning) and the hotel office just near our room (loud talking/music with the door open). Apart from that, no complaints at all - the staff were assiduously helpful, the room fine at the price, the shower (seven different jets!!) a particular highlight. There is free wifi, but only (as the website says) in the public areas of the hotel. Which is fine - but it would cost them little to improve this, and would save their customers sitting on the stairs to use their laptops. Recommendable, but ask for a room facing away from the Plaza - and we suspect that being higher up would be quieter.

Room Tip: Away from the Plaza

“'Can't Wait to Return to this Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

We ended each of our four nights in Hosteria del Laurel sipping a glass of wine on our tiny -- but big enough for two people - deck overlooking the Plaza de los Venerables. Our corner room provided two sets of French-doored windows that provided great viewing of our neighborhood. And those views, out over the orange trees, in this interesting section of the Santa Cruz barrio, more than made up for the room's somewhat basic interior.

Having a view room also meant that we did hear street 'noise' but in this pedestrian-only area the most 'noise' was the sound of tour groups being led to the plaza by the ubiquitous tour guide with umbrellas several times a day. We had first been assigned a room toward the back of the hotel - undoubtedly more quite - but also lacking a view, so we asked for the room to the front. Management was able to accommodate the request and did so immediately.

Our triple room was more than two people needed but it was great to have an extra twin bed to use for opening suitcases and tossing jackets. The room had a spacious closet which also contained a safe for valuables. It's a pay-to-use type, which required euros to be inserted into the coin slot. The room and the hotel's common areas were extremely clean.

The bathroom was enormous by European standards. As others have noted, the shower was a treat each time we used it. We also had a bidet, makeup mirror and hair dryer. Soap for the shower was in a wall dispenser. We had brought our own shampoo and used the bars of soap at the sink.

Wi-fi was free of charge and easy to access if you were in the tiny lobby. The old building's thick walls weren't made for today's in-room computer users.

What the rooms may have lacked in charming decor was more than made up for in the restuarant and bar on the hotel's main floor. We spent more than two weeks in Spain and the decor here was perhaps the best of any place we ate or drank. And we tried a number of tapa restaurants in the area during our stay, we still think the tapas we ate at our own Hostel del Laurel were the best.

The hotel is in a perfect location, only five blocks to the Cathedral and Giralda Tower, Alcazar and trams and a 10-minute walk to the bus station. Since we were using the local bus (a very modern Volvo) to get to our next destination, this was a real plus.

We would definitely return to Hosteria del Laurel - and hope to do so soon!

“Very charming, perfect location, friendly staff”

When visiting the beautiful city of Sevilla please consider this hotel. Excellent value for money, friendly staff, nice and clean (and quiet) rooms, perfect location (very close to the Alcazar), breakfast ok, a small square in front of the hotel, just perfect! When coming from the airport, take a taxi. The city is a labyrinth!
