“Close to the center, but very quiet”

The hotel was easy to reach by public transport, maybe 10 min on foot from where the airport bus left me around Plaza D'Espagna.
Behind the hotel, maybe 3 minutes on foot, there is the tram stop that takes you straight to the city center where all the musea, cathedral, etc, are.
Make sure you have small change because you cannot buy a ticket in the tram, the automatic ticket booths didn't accept 20 EUR notes and controls are frequent. (took 3 trips a day - got asked for my tickets every other trip).

The rooms are nice, with spacey bathrooms (shower and bathtub), the closet is in the hallway so it doesn't take unnecessary room space.

The breakfast was charged separately and it was a bit pricey, but we got a discount (50% off), it is worth asking for it. And it was worth taking the breakfast at the hotel for 2 things (at least): excellent jamon serrano (not the greasy strands of meat you get at a super-price in the old town center) and champagne! (the real stuff, not cava).
Staff was friendly (less so at the spa) and helpful.

Plaza d'Espagna (amazingly beautiful at any moment of the day - avoid night there though) is very close by - maybe 5 minutes on foot.

Plenty of taxis in front of the hotel. Even if it may seem empty, the parking in the front of the hotel would always get taxis in and out.

“First Class Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Melia Sevilla is a perfect logging experience while in Sevilla. Close to the airport (20 minutes?, cab was 25 Euros), walking distance (15-20 min) from the Old Town, immaculate, clean, modern, posh. Rooms are small, it is the European way, fancy bathrooms, sliding doors, big lighted closet. (It is my experience with American tourists, that the more critical they are, the more modest homes they comes from. They look for hamburger and Starbucks places, cause they do not know anything else, indeed they cannot appreciate the offered class....) The staff is polite, communicative and responsive. They all speak English. Very comfortable bed (ask for a double), excellent food... All that for very little money... I paid 108 Euros per night, GREAT breakfast included. For what you get, this is a steal... My room was on the 9th floor (917), it was very quiet and peaceful. Right next to the hotel is a cozy little place called Baco, with great tapas, delicious tempranillo and tasty beer...great for a quick dinner, when you don't feel like leaving too far from the hotel. Take a short walk and visit Alcazar, the royal palace (the family lives in Madrid, they come to Sevilla only for X-mas), the cathedral is right next to it. Beware of the aggressive palm readers attacking you outside the cathedral, and demanding "paper money", no change. DO not let them bully you. I gave her one Euro and walked away.Take advantage of a myriad of cozy little cafes, tapas restaurants in the area. People are not smiling as much as we do here, but they are very friendly overall. Tapas are far from the tapas here in US. I ordered 3, could not finish one. It is a lot of great stuff. One fills you up... (2.8 Euros for one, incredible, the same price for a big glass of a good tempranillo). I was surprised, how cheap Spain is these days. (Or how expensive the US?) Madrid airport has many good (and again affordable) clothing stores. In case you forgot someting at home. And again, a good food.... Reserve more time for Madrid airport, if you have a connecting flight.
It is vast, be prepared for miles of walking...

Seville is a gem. Melia Sevilla is a great logging solution.

(Just FYI; my husband and I travel a lot. We stay only at 5 star hotels. We have seen many.)

Room Tip: I had a room on the 9th floor (917). It was quiet and private. (Considering you are on a busy street...

“Don't get a room facing the swimming pool if you want to sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

The hotel is OK, if you don't happen to be there when they have a pool party. There is no sound insulation, one can feel the window and wall rattle and hear the music blast away till midnight. The staff are used to people complaing and will do nothing.

Room Tip: Don't get a room facing the swimming pool if you want to sleep.

“They tried to put me in the Meliá Sevilla - I said No, No, No”

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Small, stupidly designed rooms. Insane bathrooms, poor water pressure, flakey showers, daft glass doors. Dirty curtains.

Small beds, sixth floor (when we asked for low), small shoddy lifts (you could die waiting for one in the morning). Underground car park fantastically horrid (though not as scary as the price!).

Dirty carpets, air conditioning quiet because it doesn't work, bonkers storage. And what is it with the sodding lighting!!! I can't see a thing.

No free wifi in rooms (free access to CNN, BBC doesn't work). Minibar 30% more expensive than a parador.

So read the reviews for this hotel and spot that some "people" are raving about it, whilst others had to have dettol baths after staying there. I'm in the latter camp, and so will you be if you book in here.

“Excellent hotel for a weekend break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

This was an excellent hotel opposite the Europa Plaza and par. It was positioned, very close to tram stop which was only 2 stops from the Centre, and only a few minutes walk from the airport bus which was far cheeper that a taxi. The desk staff helpful and the breakfast good although waiters need to be far more helpful and I didn't see one smile. The pool area was excellent and spaciou and a sun trap even at the beginning of October. Our standard double bedrooms was very good and the addition of a balcony a bonus. The bathroom a wardrobe were well laid out with the access to the wardrobe from 2 sides. Would recommend this hotel for weekend break.
