“Excellent hotel in ideal location for sites & shopping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We've just returned from 4 nights at the Gran Melia Colon. This was our first visit to this hotel and we were really pleased with the location, comfort and cleanliness of our room and the excelllent and friendly service we received from all the staff.

We stayed in one of the Premium Rooms as we like to have a bit of space and somewhere to sit. The room was stylishly decorated and had a very comfortable chaise longue. The lighting, as described by other contributors, is a little confusing, but is nothing that can't be understood with a little perseverance. The king size bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in, and while we didn't have a spectacular view from our room, there was very little noise and so we had four very good night's sleep - you can elect not to hve clean sheets everyday, otherwise this is done automatically. The en suite was also stylishly fitted out, with a powerful shower over the bath, double sinks and a separate toilet. Towels ans toiletries were replaced every day. There is a mini-bar and also tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms - our only gripe was that tea cups and tea bags weren't replaced each day, so by the end of our stay we were making tea in whisky tumblers! On our second day we came back to a half bottle of sherry on ice and a hand written welcome message from the manager in our room - a nice touch.

We didn't use the hotel's restaurants, although did use the bar and spa. The bar is comfortable, although has a huge screen at the end of the room which is a bit distracting and makes the area a bit bright. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and we found the prices very reasonable indeed.

The spa was a disappointment. We didn't use the gym area, but the turkish bath was verr disappointing and the treatment area was just an ill-equipped room. The staff were fairly competent but far from excellent. If spas are you thing, this isn't the hotel for you.

The hotel is located in the heart of the best shopping and eating area, and just 15 minutes walk from the cathedral and Alcazar. A tai rank is situated immediately opposite the front entrance, so you really can't ask for a better location for a Seville break.

Would we come again - yes definitely. This was our third visit to Seville, and this was by far the best hotel we have stayed in.

We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel and two things made it perfect the service and the location. Also the room and sleep quality was excellent.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe room which was great.

“Fabulous location and style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

The hotel is in a fabulous location, within walking distance to the shopping area and all of the tourist spots are within 15 minutes. The hotel is very beautiful with a wonderful large entrance with three restaurants/bars to choose from, each one a little differently appointed, more loungelike, more barlike, or more restaurantlike. The morning breakfast includes numerous choices, including cheeses, danishes, eggs, salmon, fruits, etc. By the way, we did not book the hotel with breakfast included because it was expensive (26 euros) but when we arrived, we were offered the option of getting it at 15 euros which we did use as the convenience etc. was worth it. In addition, when I booked the room, I asked for standard rooms but also noted that it would be nice to have a view and when we arrived they had upgraded us to the Red Glove floors. We had two rooms, one much larger than the other, so I don't know how typical one is over the other. As in previous reviews, the lighting system is nonsensical but we managed it. Otherwise, the bathroom amenities were above norms for any hotel, we got loofah mits, two different types of shower gels, etc. We were greeted by glasses of champagne and also received a complimentary bottle in our room. We used the spa facilities, including the sauna and steam room, etc. and they were impeccably clean and beautifully appointed with changing rooms, robes, teas, and water provided (this is all free). The comfort of the beds were fantastic, very high end. In addition, the size of the bed was King which is unusual in Europe. The only negative I can think of was the sweet smelling perfume thing that permeated the hotel, don't know why I didn't remember to ask why this was so since I had read so many people have complained of it. In addition, the concierge was helpful in getting us reservations, and recommendations, and they were able to change monies for us as it was during Christmas etc and many banks etc were closed.

“Modern boutique hotel conveniently located in Seville”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We stayed for several days in a panoramic room with a view of the Cathedral, and I thought the room was spacious for European sized rooms, with a comfy bed, variety of pillows, coffee and tea selections, minibar, good closet space, and ample-sized desk to work on. The bathroom was large with an excellent rain shower, and provided comfy robes and slippers, nice amenities (like bath foam, shaving kit, and a dental kit), as well as a magnified makeup mirror and double sinks. The lighting was difficult to work with, as others have commented, and I couldn't get the TV/radio volume in the bathroom to go down so I couldn't use it.

The service was great, we were greeted with help with our luggage and champagne, a bottle of wine was sent to us later that night with an assortment of nuts to nosh on, and we were offered reduced buffet breakfast prices, which we purchased and were happy that we did (buffet from 7-11 am, offering hot breakfast (eggs, omelets, bacon, beans, potatoes, sausage, broccoli or asparagus) and an assortment of sliced cheeses, meats, breads, yogurts, sliced fruits, fruit juices, and desserts (delicious donuts). On the day we had an early wake-up to go to Granada, the hotel provided us boxed breakfasts to take with us (croissants, fruit, yogurts, and a ham and cheese sandwich). They also helped us with train arrangements, restaurant recommendations, and reserving a spot for us to see flamenco dancing.

The hotel also has a lobby bar with decent drink prices and couches to lounge on. The hotel's restaurant has a great menu (other than one dish, the food was excellent) and reasonable prices, but the service was among the most painfully slow in my life. The supposedly hot egg dish, came out over 45 minutes after we ordered it (and other tables that came in after we did were on at least their second dish by that point), and was cold and had to be sent back. We never received our fourth dish because we got tired of sitting there for two hours. We also ordered room service one night, and while it was pricey for what we got, I thought the food was very good.

But, back to the hotel. The location was convenient to walk to the Cathedral, Bullring area, Alcazar, and Jewish Quarter, and near plenty of shopping and pastry shops. It's also conveniently located across from a taxi stand.

On the downsides - the internet service was incredibly slow and often did not work. Minibar and room service prices were expensive, but not more so than hotels of its kind. The room service menu could use some more options. They really need a better explanation of the lighting system in the room.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel, especially at the price we got it at, and for travelers who are staying for a while and would like a place to serve as their "home base" in Seville.

“Good, but not exactly 5*”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed at the Melia Colon for 7 nights, this past week.
It is a beautiful hotel, right in the middle of everything and looking great!
The staff is delightful, helpful and always smiling.
However, I wouldn't give it 5* only because some of the amenities were a bit outdated.
The lighting system is frustrating and trying too hard to be edgy and trendy...
Room service takes forever to arrive and the food lacks taste and substance for such high prices.
The "spa" was a bit smelly (mouldy) as was the room behind the furniture.
The bed is very comfortable and the pillows simply amazing.
The food was ok but as I mentioned before it is the staff (waiters, housekeepers, porters, bartenders) that makes the hotel a great place to spend a holiday.
Would I go back ? Probably not as I have stayed in other 5* hotels and there is no comparison
Would I recommend it? Yes, if its your first time in the beauiful city of Seville and looking for convenience
