Had a driving holiday around Andalusia and of course stayed one night in Granada, found this hotel on the main square after walking out of the Tourist Office with an accommodation list but little help or advice from their staff. The hotel looks elegant on arrival and the local architecture attracted us. The reception is small and often un-manned, but friendly enough and there is a cafe adjoining the lobby so you can always find someone when needed. The patio courtyard is amazing, with wooden pillars, and the staircase has an interesting domed roof, all of which was renovated when the hotel opened around 2006. The rooms on the next two floors lead off the central patio and some have small windows, overlooking the wall opposite or the small alleyways, not ideal but in such an old part of town, acceptable. The rooms themselves are simply decorated but with nice touches, such as local Moorish style tiles and headboards. We had problems with the air-con in one of the rooms, but luckily the hotel wasn't full in early July. The bedroom wasn't massively spacious but perfectly adequate for a night or two. The bathroom was so clean it looked new, and as usual in this area, the water pressure strong and invigorating. The adjoining bar (to the lobby, not the bathroom!) had local newspapers and a decent beer on tap as well as a small selection of tapas and a local clientele, even in the morning when they served a typical Spanish breakfast of baguette (tomato, Iberian ham, cheese, etc) with strong coffee, fresh orange juice and all coming in at less than 5 Euros ahead. The hotel is not well located for parking, the two public carparks are a 10 minute walk away and around Euro 15 a day, but guests of the hotel can negotiate a discount and driving anywhere close to the hotel for luggage delivery is tricky, with lots of one-way streets and narrow alley-ways taking you on a maze around the old town. As others have agreed, the hotel is well located for walking, lot's of bars and restaurants close by, close to the walk along Cuesta de Gomerez up to Alhambra as well as over to the Albayzín area, with it's narrow alleyways, lovely plazas and great restaurants. The price was around 50E/60E for a single/double room in early July 2009, perfect value for a hotel with an individual feel, but try and leave your car elsewhere.
