“Wonderful location”

Stayed over the weekend, beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, nice bathroom with toiletries. The location was brilliant, we ride a Honda Goldwing and the parking for bikes was right outside the hotel - so peace of mind for my hubby.
However, there was a downside for us over the weekend...we had requested a quiet room as we are travelling on motorbike, when we arrived I asked the girl AGAIN that the room be quiet as we needed to be up early at 6.30am to que for the Alhambra tickets for that day...yes she said, it will be very quiet and you will sleep. But, it was so noisy, people singing, shouting, bins being emptied early hours. At 3am I rung down to the reception and complained that our requests for quiet room were not meet. The guy apologised and said he would discount the room. We were so tired we never woke at 6.30am and therefore missed going to the Alhambra, one of the main reasons we travelled to Granada. On checking out the manager had discounted the room 6Euros.....I was very angry and insulted and in the end they discounted 13Euros but no way did that compensate for us losing sleep till gone 3am and missing out on seeing the Alhambra....so even though the hotel was beautiful I WOULDN'T STAY here again on principle.
Steer clear of room 203, it has another room joining it with a staicase and you can hear everything overhead of you.

Room Tip: STEER CLEAR OF ROOM 203 it has another room off of it that then goes up via staircase to above.

“Lovely building, but be choosey of rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2009

Beautifully restored 17thC Hotel in central Granada. Large ‘special’ doubles have original wooden ceilings at €136 (although tourandalucia.co.uk got us deal at €96) but some noise from above - standard doubles at €80 are fine but choose one not opening onto patio which in summer likely to be smokey : and have breakfast in one of many local cafés.

“Lot's of character, great location, Moorish building, charming.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2009

Had a driving holiday around Andalusia and of course stayed one night in Granada, found this hotel on the main square after walking out of the Tourist Office with an accommodation list but little help or advice from their staff. The hotel looks elegant on arrival and the local architecture attracted us. The reception is small and often un-manned, but friendly enough and there is a cafe adjoining the lobby so you can always find someone when needed. The patio courtyard is amazing, with wooden pillars, and the staircase has an interesting domed roof, all of which was renovated when the hotel opened around 2006. The rooms on the next two floors lead off the central patio and some have small windows, overlooking the wall opposite or the small alleyways, not ideal but in such an old part of town, acceptable. The rooms themselves are simply decorated but with nice touches, such as local Moorish style tiles and headboards. We had problems with the air-con in one of the rooms, but luckily the hotel wasn't full in early July. The bedroom wasn't massively spacious but perfectly adequate for a night or two. The bathroom was so clean it looked new, and as usual in this area, the water pressure strong and invigorating. The adjoining bar (to the lobby, not the bathroom!) had local newspapers and a decent beer on tap as well as a small selection of tapas and a local clientele, even in the morning when they served a typical Spanish breakfast of baguette (tomato, Iberian ham, cheese, etc) with strong coffee, fresh orange juice and all coming in at less than 5 Euros ahead. The hotel is not well located for parking, the two public carparks are a 10 minute walk away and around Euro 15 a day, but guests of the hotel can negotiate a discount and driving anywhere close to the hotel for luggage delivery is tricky, with lots of one-way streets and narrow alley-ways taking you on a maze around the old town. As others have agreed, the hotel is well located for walking, lot's of bars and restaurants close by, close to the walk along Cuesta de Gomerez up to Alhambra as well as over to the Albayzín area, with it's narrow alleyways, lovely plazas and great restaurants. The price was around 50E/60E for a single/double room in early July 2009, perfect value for a hotel with an individual feel, but try and leave your car elsewhere.

“Authentic Hotel - terrible breakfast!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2009

I stayed in this hotel with a group of friends. It is a small, but cosy hotel, however, the guest rooms and en suites are really big. The service was fantastic and the staff were really friendly,

The breakfasts were terrible. We had a busy schedule so needed to leave early in the mornings. However, when we enquired about breakfast times we were told that it wasn't served until 9am! You had to sit in the lobby and eat it and all it consisted of was
1) a croissant or a pain au chocolat
2) Water or orange juice
3) tea or coffee
and that was it!
Apart from that it was a lovely hotel in a really central location.

“Perfect location, but nothing more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2007

Let me start with the biggest positive this place has going for it: location. It's right on the Plaza Nuevo, the minibuses run just a few steps away, the street up to the Alhambra is right here, the Albaycin starts across the street, etc. All good.

But the place has left me with a blech feeling about it. After checking in I had a question, called the front desk but got no answer. I gave a tour group the number of the hotel but when they called at 9:30AM they received no answer.

The patio courtyard, with tables and drinks and tapas, does seem nice at first. It's spacious with a lot of plants. But there are no windows at all, just the front door which is usually closed. There is minimal ventilation, and the roof is glass which lets light and heat in. So it gets pretty stuffy, and if you dislike cigarette smoke as I do the smell lingers and makes its way up the hallways towards the rooms, although thankfully not inside of the rooms.

I ordered a diet coke in the lounge. I got a very small bottle, as I expected, and I expected a standard tourist rip-off price of E1.50, but it was E2.50. I've been here for two weeks and never seen a price over E1.50 before. So be forewarned.

The room itself is somewhat small, even by European standards, but I'm in a single so that's what you get. However I wouldn't describe the decor as old-world but instead simply lacking. There is a large cabinet, but not a dresser. When you open it there are no shelves, it's just a big box. There are no drawers of any kind in the room. And the only chair in the room is a small uncomfortable wooden one. All of these are firsts for me in a place charging these rates.

When I checked in, the person working the front desk showed me to my room, but there was no literature about the town and I did not feel like I should contact her with questions. Basically, I just got a negative impression of the facility in general.

But, the location is great and the room is adequate, and everything else is nice but not essential. Hence, 3 stars.
