“Magnificent view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

We spent 4 nights here and just loved this magical place. The view of the Alhambra from the little deck off our room was picture-perfect. The old Moorish area in which this accommodation is situated is incredibly beautiful. It is a bit of a steep walk from the town, but we negotiated several routes and they were all interesting. We could walk up to the local restaurants or down to the town and if you wanted, you could catch the bus down to save the knees! The room itself was extremely comfortable with a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend for its great views and atmosphere. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. It isn't the easiest place to find, but we had good directions for getting there and on leaving, we had worked out the local bus to get to the central bus station and therefore didn't have to pay for a taxi.

“A peaceful oasis in the middle of Moorish Granada”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2009

We stayed at Casa Del Aljbe during our visit to Granada and I cannot think of a better place that would give you a true feel for what Granada is and has to offer. This guest house is located in the heart of the Albaicin (the old maze-like Moorish neighborhood which is a world heritage sight) and overlooks the Alhambra. It is a hilly neighborhood with narrow stone-covered streets and quite a few stairs and no car access so be prepared to do some walking and carrying of your suitcase!! The directions to the house are pretty straight-forward (and a 5-min walk from the shuttle bus stop in Albaicin which conviniently runs every 10 minutes till midnight) once you become a bit familiar with the area. But you may get a little lost on the first day (that happened to us actually). Make sure to get very precise directions (and street names) before you head to Granada. Monica (the lady of the house) is sweet and helpful and will provide you with a map and directions on how to get to the city center and which bus to take back to Albaicin. She was more than helpful in booking Zambra dances and Hammam visits for us and she even went through the trouble of finding and booking a Malaga hotel for us (since we were heading back to Malaga). The house itself is simply gorgeous. It's an oasis of peace and beauty and you can spend hours sitting in the courtyard reading your book or gazing at the beautiful Alhambra from the second level balcony. The rooms are spotless clean and tastefully decorated.
We really enjoyed our stay in Casa Del Aljibe and would definitely go back if we're ever in Granada again.

“Charming guest house in historic Albacin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2009

I enjoyed my stay in Casa Del Aljibe. It wouldn't be to everyone's taste as there is no access for cars, it is located on a steep hill and it is quite tricky to find. However, the owner helped us find a parking spot and then the guesthouse. The area is charming and has fabulous views of the Alhambra. Michael was helpful and welcoming (although information in the room or entrance would have been useful as we couldn't take in all the detail after a long, hot journey). We had one of the cheaper ground floor rooms, which was comfortable, but we felt it could have done with a bit of TLC. It was a shame that breakfast wasn't served, but not difficult to find somewhere to eat. All in all a very good stay.

“haven of tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2009

We had a wonderful stay at Casa del Aljibe built in the 1400's I believe. Initially it does seem tucked away in the old town and you cannot park by it- one of the reasons we didnt bother to hire a car but it is actually ideally situated to explore and eat in characterful Albaicin- 5 mins walk uphill or walking less than 10 mins down hill brings you right to the main area by the Cathedral- either walk leading you through quaint but safe streets ( in our experience). As we prefer the individual character and history of places and are happy to explore on foot, it was ideal. Try to book the room with the view of the Alhambra - 80 euros per night because the view really is unbelievable!! The room has long wooden doors which have shuttered windows on them leading onto a tiny private balcony which is not accessed by anyone else. After a couple of nights, we put our pillows at the end of the bed , left the doors wide open and slept with a view of the stars and the Alhambra lit up at night only being woken by the birds!
The room has no air con but stayed pleasantly cool even in 30 degree heat. Designed around a courtyard with a pond, there is a ground floor looking out onto the patio, a first flooor with some view of the Alhambra and the second floor where the family live. Rooms are decorated in traditional arabic style with teracotta tiled floor, comfy bed with cotton sheets, table and chairs, little simple kitchen area with fridge and one ring cooker and a small bathroom. All clean and in good working order. Michael the owner is English and couldnt have been more helpful, from meeting us from the airport bus to finding us a hire car for our excursion to Cordoba.
The only downside is that as a taxi cannot drop you at the door, you will have to walk at least 5 mins if you come by taxi, or 10 if u use the airport bus and get dropped at the Cathedral- so make sure you have luggage that you can manage to walk with!!
The location and views from the place make it well worth a stay- we had a gorgeous time-so relaxing.

“Excellent base for Granada - but travel light!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2009

Stayed two nights here during Semana Santa (holy week). Right in the heart of the Albaicín, it's essentially only reachable on foot - so travel light! We were able to find parking for our hire car with help from the very helpful owner, who even met us in the outskirts on his scooter and guided us there! He also had lots of good tips for where to go and how to get there. Accommodation is room-only, and we had the Mulhacén room, which has an excellent view to the Alhambra on the hill opposite. It was a quiet location while we were there, but it was holy week so the students were probably absent! The accommodation itself is very peaceful and well-maintained. Centre of town is less than 10 mins walk away, but be aware that it is a hilly neighbourhood - it will get you fit! And beware the front and inside doors - they are not tall and I cracked my head twice!
