You can't beat this location as other reviewers have stated. We easily found the parking at St. Augustin garage that hotel provided directions for. It was an easy, short walk to hotel even lugging suitcases. Arriving at hotel, being surrounded by graffitied buildings, doesn't initially create a great impression but once inside all is well. It's a lovely, historic building with open-roofed courtyard with plants and birds chirping and where meals are served. Included breakfast consisted of OJ, cereal, toast, jams, and pastries, about what you'd expect. There's a separate bar that didn't seem to be open during our stay. The public areas are nicely decorated with stained glass windows, ceiling murals, and a traditional, old Spanish feel, although could have done without the large stuffed bull head.
Everything was on the doorstep: cathedral, Plaza Nueva, river, buses to Alhambra and top of Albaicin, restaurants, and 'Moroccon shopping streets' just opposite.
We had a large front room with two sets of doors opening onto the traditional narrow balconies. The doors had interior shutters to open for light and additional exterior sliding windows for noise insulation. We weren't bothered by street noise as others reported. There was a small TV but if you wanted to catch the news you both had to sit on the side of the bed closest otherwise it was too far away to see properly, but of course, you're not there to watch TV. The bathroom was great. Had double decorative ceramic sinks with cupboards underneath. Plenty of room to lay out your stuff or store below and good lighting for applying makeup or shaving, things a lot of hotels lack. Shower was big enough and had jet thingies but didn't try them. Some of the other rooms had windows or large entrance balconies above the courtyard.
Staff we encountered spoke English fairly well and were helpful with maps and directions. They close the big wooden doors at night and you have to buzz to be let in but not a problem.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.
