“Beautiful and authentic”

I stayed in this property on my honeymoon and I was so amazed by the two poor reviews that I decided to write my first review for trip advisor. The question has to be asked is air conditioning really relevant in a property of this age that was specifically designed to stay cool in the 15th century? (see previous review) There is a range of themes to the rooms and interior decor seems to be a love of the owner: authentic, homely, spaces to relax and spend time - the feeling of being a pampered guest in somebody's home prevails. Breakfast was great and the staff keen to extend my Spanish. If you want to experience the place you are visiting and not recreate your air conditioned overly spacious home then come here. I really loved it and I loved the restaurant that the owner recommended to me as well.

  • Liked — the authenticity, the friendliness of the staff, the wonderful decor, the ancient well
  • Disliked — carrying my suitcases through the tiny streets of Albaicin because i m too cheap to get a taxi

“Best surprise of our trip, a jewel!”

We arrived in Granada early with reservations at a sister property that couldn't accomodate our early arrival. They referred us over to Horno De oro & we're so glad they did!! Yes, the room by the front door is quite small but we were rarely in it! Also, keep in mind, that this residence is part of the ancient part of town and has been standing since the 1500's! The living areas of the home were very spacious.

Our host was Jesus, he was super friendly and knowledgable about the area. We loved that the inn was ona tiny, narrow, pedestrian only street. The taxi dropped us off at the end of the road and we only had to walk about 100 yards to the front door. We loved the moorish influences in the home, found it all really comfortable and welcoming, just like the town of Granada.

The roof top terrace has spectacular views of the Alhambra and makes for an excellent spot for journaling in the mornings.

The breakfast we were served each morning was prepared by 2 local women who live next door & their young daughter. I haven't dined this nicely in my own home for years...crisp white lace tablecloths & fine chinaa, what a treat.!

Yes, we did hear pedestrian noise in the early morning and late at night but it was not excessive.

I'm so glad we weren't accomodated at our first hotel, as it was not in the Albacyin and wouldn't have made us fall in love w/ Grandada as much as we did. We would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — ambiance, architecture, our host, our cooks
  • Disliked — that I couldn't come back sooner

“Loved Horno de Oro, Granada, Spain”

Booked our stay for our wedding anniversary. We fell in love with the building as soon as we entered it.

The Horno de Oro looks very small from the outside, but is very misleading. Once through the beautiful wooden doors you enter what must have been a large Moorish courtyard (now enclosed by glass ceiling in the roof). There are four distinct relaxing areas around the old covered courtyard with beautiful fireplaces surrounded by tiles, comfortable couches and period style furniture. One area has a vaulted ceiling with stars in it, very moorish in style and very beautiful. The breakfast area is very light and pleasant with a view through ornate glass windows into the kitchen area where the staff prepare your breakfast.

We stayed in the Lindjehara suite on the second floor., the furniture was pleasant (but the wardrobe doors were magnificent). The only downside was the jacuzzi bath didn't work and we didn't speak Spanish and the staff didn't speak English so we couldn't let them know about the problem, which at the price, should not have been a problem. Also, there was no kettle to make tea or coffee, luckily I never travel without my travel kettle and mugs!!.

We had patio doors which opened straight onto the communal split level roof terrace, with the most beautiful views of the Alhambra Palace and across the Albeycin rooftops.

We have stayed at the Savoy Hotel and the Dorchester Hotel in London, but we can honestly say, we much preferred the ambiance in the Horno de Oro. We would recommend and have recommended this Hotel to friends and acquaintances. Language problems aside, the staff were friendly, the hotel was absolutely beautiful. We felt as though we owned the building as we only once saw any other guests and they were only passing through the communal room on the second floor to view the Alhambra from the roof terraces.

All in all, if I win the Lottery, I would love to own this property with all my heart.

  • Liked — Traditional Moorish ground floor - views from the roof terraces. Interior furniture and decoration.
  • Disliked — Jacuzzi did not work

“Do Not Stay Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2007

Do not let the pictures fool you like they did us. Our room was tiny even by European standards. The room was so small it was difficult to find a place to keep two small suit cases. The bed was so uncomfortable and small (my feet hung off the end) that sleeping on the floor was considered. There is NO air-conditioning. Our first floor room had a window but it opened onto a busy alley allowing passerby’s to see directly in.
