I’ve stayed in 5 star hotels and this isn’t one of them.
The building is a lovely older building on the edge of town and is walking distance to many of the sights. It has attached parking which is a bonus in this old city. The interior of the building feels cold and soulless. The rooms are decorated in what I imagine they though would be a modern and trendy style but it comes off more like cheap and cheesy. It's almost like they fixed up the outside of the building, ran out of money, and did an Ikea run to decorate the interior.
When we first checked in, the room we were given on an upper floor in the old building had windows from the floor level up to about 3.5 feet, so you had to crouch on the ground to look out of the window. Luckily, we were able to switch to a large, bright room on the ground floor with lots of light. The room was very basically decorated with grey cheap sheers, a dirty-looking cream, vinyl snakeskin bed, and strange lights. A red sofa provided the only cheer. The bathroom was large, marble and clean. The sink had a lamp built into it which seemed odd. My husband found the marble shower floor very slippery.
Breakfast, served in the new section of the hotel, was pleasant and nicely displayed, though if you wanted something hot like bacon and eggs, there was a supplemental charge.
The staff members were extremely helpful and very pleasant, so they get good marks for that, but the building, location, and in particular, odd décor just don’t work. This is not a terrible hotel, but the property is certainly not worthy of its 5-star designation.
